Matcha Love Unsweetened Japanese Matcha + Vanilla

Matcha Love Unsweetened Japanese Matcha + Vanilla

This is not what I expected. It's less bitter and bold than other matcha I have drink/drank/drunk. You don't get a lot of really anything. It tastes like "tea" and a watered down tea at that. It tastes like a green tea but it's only slightly bitter. I don't know about this, man. It's like they only had a little bit of mix and had to make a lot of drinks and they had to stretch it out. "Hey kids, I've got one pack of single serve Kool-Aid and there are four of us so we have to make due, alright?" While I don't mind, and have been known to water down my own drinks, this seems like a wasted attempt. Also, wut vanilla? It's not bad but it's also not much of anything and certainly nothing to write home about. Do we have to change that phrase? Are enough people writing home that we need to keep it? The alternative, which is unfortunate is something abysmal like, "This drink is nothing to text your daddy about." Begrudging and shuttering.

Gold Thread Plant Based Tonics Hawaiian Ginger with Jasmine, Coriander + Vanilla

Gold Thread Plant Based Tonics Hawaiian Ginger with Jasmine, Coriander + Vanilla

If you looked up the opposite of a Trigger Warning, I’m pretty sure the returned result would simply be a picture of this beverage. I mean maybe it comes up with different results for different people, but the list of ingredients hear could very well be a secret code to break into my soul. Ginger is one of the greatest things that has ever graced this planet. I sure do like to go overboard with it. The other night I got a meal that was just shredded ginger and scallions with some fake chicken. You know when you get a bag of shredded carrots, well it was like someone dumped the full bag on my plate, but instead of carrots it was ginger, and a complaint didn’t even cross my mind because it was amazing. Jasmine may be my favorite type of tea and vanilla, well it’s vanilla and it’s delicious. The only red flag here is coriander, which is the same plant as cilantro, you know pure soapy garbage. Luckily there is not a trace of that dirty dishwater taste I associate with the plant in this drink.

I’m going to say something crazy here. I feel like my friends are going to be concerned and perhaps I will come home to an intervention later, but I could actually do with a little less ginger here. By no means does the ginger taste bad. The only reason I say this is that it is so strong of a flavor that it doesn’t really let the other flavors shine. Sure they are there, but I want them to have equal billing with the ginger. It’s slightly floral with hints of vanilla, but how great would this be if those flavors were stronger?

I love this, but there is room for improvement via my imagination. I want this to be to summer as chai is to winter.

Runa Clean Energy Lime

Runa Clean Energy Lime

Normally I am on board with guayusa. It’s a natural source of caffeine that I don’t need to feel terrible about consuming. Sure, it’s not my all-time favorite flavor, but it is by no means gross. It’s just its own unique flavor. Normally the other flavors mixed with it mask it a bunch, and everything works out great. In here I would say this is 80% guayusa and 20% lime. For my liking it definitely could have done with more lime. Lime is a flavor that can be as strong as possible and I wouldn’t complain. It’s very faint in here and it seems to make the guayusa shine a bit more. It was weirdly a bit plain, which I didn’t expect to use as a descriptor. I can imagine a world where this is what water tastes like and no one would bat an eye. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it doesn’t entice me to drink more.

Teas' Tea Ice Steeped Cold Brew Raspberry Black Tea

Teas' Tea Ice Steeped Cold Brew Raspberry Black Tea

I balked at cold brew for coffee when it became popular as being nonsense for people with too much time disposable income. Then it was finally forced upon me as a friend and I realized that I wanted to be one of those people because it was so much better than regular coffee; smooth and delicious. Now cold brewing tea is becoming a thing, and again I thought it was companies jumping on a trend, but I’ll be damned if this is not the best sweetened raspberry tea that I have ever tasted. Just like with the coffee the tea is smooth, without being syrupy. I’m sure a bit part of the greatness is that actual dried raspberries are brewed with the tea and it’s not an additive. The sugar level is kept to 15g, which makes it sweet, but tolerably so. Let me rephrase that, it a level of sweetness that you can actually enjoy. It doesn’t overshadow the actual flavor of the drink, but it also helps them to shine a bit. It leaves a tad bit of bitterness to the tea, and that’s how I like things. The price point on this will keep it from being a regular drink, but it is something I will definitely treat myself to from time to time.

Purpose Purple Super Tea

Purpose Purple Super Tea

Grimace somehow broke free from the confines of McDonald land in order to create chaos on our world, you can be damn sure that the exhalted Purple One would make Purpose the official drink of his regime. A purple tea for a purple world, created in his image. Of course Grimace’s favorite musical artist is Prince, I mean who else could it be? In such a perfect world how could he not pass up the chance for the ultimate pun of naming the tea Purple Reign?

Before the big purple guy came to do what he does best in our world most people were unaware that purple tea even existed. Now that it is the only beverage that they are allowed to consume, they are grateful for just how delicious it actually is. It tastes like something in-between a black and a green tea. It has a nice tea bitterness to it. Nestea drinkers would probably hate that, but to me it is that which makes it taste like actual tea. Purpose lightly sweetens it with cane sugar, without going overboard. If a delicious taste wasn’t enough it is also ripe with antioxidants, specifically anthocyanins. You know, you have to keep the Purple leader in tip top health. All jokes aside this is just great. It’s a nice mellow tea that I could enjoy at any time, under any dictatorship.

Monster Rehab White Dragon Tea

Monster Rehab White Dragon Tea

Hello, my name is Jason and I have an energy drink problem. It all started off with late night drives, and me grabbing a Red Bull or what have you to keep me awake. Then I was occasionally drinking them on long days of work to give me a push to make it to the end of the day. Before I knew it I loved the taste that I used to have to force myself through. I justified it to myself that it wasn’t a regular occurrence and they were special treats for me. Then the turning point came. Over the course of the past two months Big Lots was blowing out different energy drinks for $.50 and $.33 respectively. I stocked up using the old adage that I would be losing money if I didn’t. Then they were staring me in the face and instead of being a treat they became an every other day thing, now it seems it’s every day. I keep telling myself that it’s fine because the drinks I purchased got their energy from natural caffeine and vitamins, not weird chemicals. Now here I am and even though I drank one of my natural energy drinks a few hours ago I find myself in a gas station parking lot having purchased this Monster and I just don’t give a rip. I will now blame it on my puppy. Have you ever had a couple month old puppy, they are a handful and wake up at the crack of dawn. My rise and shine time has been moved up a few hours and I’m still going to bed at the same time. I’m tired all the time. Of course it’s not because I’m addicted to caffeine now (at least I hope). I’m just going to sit back and sip this can of deliciousness on this hot spring day.

I love these Rehab Monsters. Tea is one of my favorite beverages and mixing it with an energy drink, which I also apparently love now, is great. This has a combo of white and black tea in it, not too shabby. It also has a bunch of different fruit juices in it and that is where things get weird. This is supposed to be dragonfruit (or pitaya) flavored tea, but somewhere along the line the wires got crossed and it just tastes like lychee, which is somehow wonderful. I like dragon fruit, but the weird perfumey floral taste of this only makes me think of lychee. I’m guessing it has something to do with the white grape and dragon fruit comingling. I just hope other people enjoy this as much as I do so that it sticks around. Actually maybe it would be better for me if it bombs and this shows up at Big Lots for mere cents. I would instantly buy them all and then hit up the rest of the stores in an hour radius around me. Sorry Monster, but I have a new found addiction to feed and I might as well do it with your wonderful new flavor.

Giving Tree Tea Original Organic Moringa Superfood Tea

Giving Tree Tea Original Organic Moringa Superfood Tea

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Shel Silverstein book that shares a name with this beverage is about how humans are horrible needy beings that will ruin anything if it helps them to “progress.” In the book the boy takes and takes until there is nothing left, and even then he uses ole stumpy as a place to rest his weary body, when he hasn’t been back in years to visit. At the same time the book seems to teach that feminine things should be happy to serve. I know it’s a childhood favorite to a lot of people but looking at it as an adult that book is a crock.

While they may share names this beverage is of a different sort. They give in the form of vitamin c, calcium, potassium, iron, protein as well refreshment, but they also take your cash and make a profit, which they should. As an added bonus, Giving Tree Tea also donates a portion of each sale to provide healthy meals to people who are struggling with hunger. They should be the basis for a children’s book. They give and they take, and they aren’t a chump in doing so. Everyone is happy and they are making the world a better place. Sharing and giving are important, but so is your general wellbeing, and don’t let a picture book from the 60’s tell you any different.

Moringa is a light earthy tea that has some produce like notes in it. Sometimes I think they are fruitlike and other times it’s almost like leafy greens. I’m going to go with the latter and say it’s the sugar that makes me think of fruit. It’s almost as if it’s tea flavored water, except it is way healthier. I feel like I could down a gallon of this without blinking.

Pure Leaf Tea House Collection Sicilian Lemon & Honesysuckle

Pure Leaf Tea House Collection Sicilian Lemon & Honesysuckle

Sometimes you come across things in life that are simply not for you, but that you can appreciate that they are well made and completely understand why other people would love them. This tea is one such thing. I’ve never been a huge lemon fan. I always kind of thought that it was because the flavor normally tasted very fake or that it wasn’t strong enough in a pure form (the exception being proper lemonade which I can destroy during appropriate times). The Tea house Collection doesn’t mess around. They don’t add “flavoring” to their teas. They actually brew the things in with the tea itself, like tea should be made. Lemon peel and honeysuckle are mixed in with the black tea leaves when the hot water is added to steep it. That makes all the difference and everything tastes natural. The result is a lemon tea that has a strong flavor, without being bitter. It tastes like a iced version of someone’s grandmother’s tea if she used higher quality ingredients. I enjoyed this, but I didn’t love it. If you are a fan of lemon tea, you will love this though. If you don’t I don’t know what to tell you. The world makes no sense.

Yachak Yerba Mate Infused Mate

Yachak Yerba Mate Infused Mate

I’m always spouting yerba mate this, and yerba mate that. It’s the tea of my dreams. It tastes of the earth and I usually can’t get enough. This, my friends and readers, is no yerba mate. If I were a conspiracy theorist I would make claims that not a single leaf of yerba mate was used in making this. The wonderful earthy taste is not present at all, let alone any sort of tea taste whatsoever. At best what you have tastes like a malt beverage. At worst it tastes like crappy beer a teenager would squirrel away until the night of the big party in the woods with all their hair farmer friends. This is gross. I tried to power through it, hoping that maybe I would get acclimated and it would get better, but there was no chance of that. I couldn’t even make it halfway through the can. I would avoid this at all costs. I have no idea how this got big enough to make it into 711. It’s something I would expect to find in the dirtiest of bodegas, covered in a thick film of dust as no one has touched it in decades.

Yachak Yerba Mate Berry Blue

Yachak Yerba Mate Berry Blue

Ladies, Gentlemen and everyone in-between, I am here to spread the gospel of yerba mate. It is the superior brewed beverage and that includes all teas and coffee. It is the best as you should worship it for the golden god that it is. I am obviously glad that more companies are popping up who put out this wonderful beverage. Not only is it delicious, but it is also my favorite form of caffeine intake.

The mate flavor in this here can of Yachic isn't as strong as my favorite, Guayaki. The water to tea ratio is off and it is causing it to lack the earthiness that you normally get from a yerba mate. Anything that is lost from that imbalance is made up for by the taste of the blueberry though. It's flavored with organic blueberry juice, which causes it to actually tastes like the berries instead of the usual fake flavoring. This may taste more like a “regular” tea, but it at least tastes like a great version of that. This is what I would expect Arizona’s take on yerba mate to be, but you know with better added flavors.
