Ayala Herbal Tea Chamomile Bergamot Vanilla

Ayala Herbal Tea Chamomile Bergamot Vanilla

You’ve had a long day. Work was rough. Well it wasn’t rough in the sense that you did something wrong and were scolded, it was just a long day and you worked hard. You accomplished a lot, so you feel good about it, but you’re just beat. How about you plop down in your nice recliner, let your cat and/or dog curl up with you, grab that book you’ve been meaning to read (I’ve seen you eyeing up that Morrissey autobiography) and just relax.

I have a tea that would go perfectly with what you’re about to do. It’s a chamomile tea with vanilla and bergamot in it. Of course you have no idea what bergamot is, neither did I, so don’t feel bad. Not knowing makes this drink a little weird, as there is a strong flavor that you just can’t place. That flavor is orange skin aka bergamot. It’s used in Earl Grey tea. As soon as I discovered what it was the weird flavor made sense and it made the drink all the more enjoyable. It’s like someone made some nice vanilla chamomile tea and let some orange rinds soak in it for a bit. I don’t know why someone would do such a think, but it makes for an interesting drink. I have to admit that I prefer that the strength of the rinds and the vanilla were switched, as I would love for this to have strong vanilla flavor, but of well.

Take some sips off of this bottle of tea as you read a few dozen pages of Oscar Wilde Jr’s life. Before you know it you will be so relaxed that you will drift off to sleep until your phone alarm wakes you up at 6am and it’s time to put in the real work once again.

Baagua Tisane Action Jasmine Green Tea

Baagua Tisane Action Jasmine Green Tea

Do not be thrown off by what looks to be lawn debris that hang out in the bottom third of this bottle. They are nothing more than jasmine tea, goji berries and orange peels. Some may say that it is fodder for a compost pile. I say that it is the makings of an incredible tea. This is the strongest bottled jasmine tea I have ever tasted, and rightfully so as it's "literally stewing in it's own juices." There is a slight hint of the orange and goji berries, but it's mostly just straight jasmine right up in your face.

A tasted this with some friends and all of them asked if we were supposed to filter out the tealeaves and such. I chose not to and just filtered them out with my lips/teeth. I enjoyed it that way. The bottle also says to fill it with water after the tea is gone and you can get a lightly flavored drink. Who doesn't love round two?

If you like jasmine tea you definitely should check this out. It's basically perfect.

Baagua Tisane Chrysanthemum

Baagua Tisane Chrysanthemum

I've been saving this guy for a long time. Look at it. It's literally a flower in a jar. It looks revolting. Yeah, it's a flower in a jar, but it looks like something decomposed in there and they're trying to pass it off as a drinkable, delicious drink. Well I'm here to tell you what's what.

On first sip, it was light. Really light. I, for some reason probably along the lines of I don't like to read, thought that it was going to be sweet or mint or something. It took a couple more sips to get used to. Once situated in the floral land of chrysanthemum, I was whisked away to a land filled with flowers and the lightest tea one can drink. There was a strange taste in there that, and this is very strange, tasted like pickles, but once I finally read the ingredients and noticed that there was orange peel in it, it tastes less like pickles and more like orange peel. That is a good thing.

As I stated, this is a light tea. No bite, no complex flavors; it tastes like it looks, light and yellow. I wished it would have been a bit bolder, but as late as it was when I drank it, it was alright with me just the way it was. Although, when I got to the bottom and one of those petals touched my mouth, I thought I was going to gag. It was instinctive. I strategically poured it into another glass for fear of losing my lunch. I also took the bottle's advice and went for round two and put more water in.

Baagua Tisane Cirque Du Supermint

Baagua Tisane Cirque Du Supermint

You know that feeling you get in your mouth after you just brushed your teeth? Or had a minty gum? It's a pretty awesome feeling. Now imagine that times 10. That's what it's like drinking this tea. It's seriously the mintiest tea/anything I have ever tasted. It feels like I just brushed my teeth for 5 hours straight after just drinking a couple sips of this. I'm not usually a huge fan of unsweetened teas, but this is incredible. It's definitely a sipping tea as far as I’m concerned. I've had to take a minute or two between sips due to the intensity of the mint flavor.

Bai Supertea Tanzania Lemon

Bai Supertea Tanzania Lemon

This is...I guess this is like an Arnold Palmer. While it's not listed as such, it's more than than a lemon black tea. It's considered tea but I don't know what the base of this is. Does calling it "supertea" make it so that you don't have to claim it's anything since "supertea" isn't a real thing? This is like a 60/40 lemonade and something else. I don't know what it is. Is it bad? Not at all if you can deal with the flavor of erythritol which some cannot.

If you like Bai, and I do, you already know about what this tastes like. They seem to be riding the erythritol train pretty hard so you know what you're going to get. I would drink this again. While it's not particularly warm and won't stop raining, this would have otherwise made a nice summer drink. Since it's not technically summer yet, I suppose I can't complain. Also, what does complaining about the weather actually do besides make you annoying?

Beaver Buzz Dam Good Green Tea

Beaver Buzz Dam Good Green Tea

Mike did not enjoy the Beaver Buzz citrus energy drink. As we all know, Mike it wrong sometimes. Actually Mike is normally infallible, it just turns out he doesn't like energy drinks. I in turn thought it was one of the best energy drinks I've had. I was excited to drink the tea version of it. Non-carbonated energy drinks always seem weird to me, but I'm starting to come around. It reminds me a lot of Arizona's green tea. It’s very sweet, with a green tea after taste when you exhale. It's decent, but it's not as good as the other two Beaver Buzz's I've had. That being said, I would still pick this over most "normal" energy drinks.

Also, it's Canadian and it's still hysterical that it's called Beaver Buzz. I appreciate their sense of humor.

Bhakti Chai Iced The Original Fresh Chai

Bhakti Chai Iced The Original Fresh Chai

I’ve been all about iced chai lattes this summer. I got one on a whim when I met a friend at a coffee shop about a month ago and I knew it would be the summer drink for me. I tend to make them at home with some fancy loose leaf chai that I have, but to tell you the truth no matter how good it is it’s never as good as I want it to be. Enter Bhakti Chai and it’s a whole new world. This is the strongest chai tea I have ever had and that is the way this drink should be. A lot of chai tea ends up pretty smooth, but this really packs a punch. It’s black tea with spices, a healthy serving of ginger and a bit of soy milk. Each sip is a strong shot of spices that fade out into a mellow burn. I’m weird and I like a little discomfort in my drinks. This delivers what I need. Also, the fact that they use pressed ginger instead of a powder really makes a difference.

I’ve never had a chai tea outside of my house or a local coffee shop. This could be how it’s traditionally done and I could be completely ignorant of that. If that’s the case I need to drink more of the “real stuff.”

Bhakti Chai Iced Semi Sweet

Bhakti Chai Iced Semi Sweet

I’m happy to announce that Bhakti Chai has made its way to Buffalo, NY and I can now purchase it whenever I want to have an intense experience. If you think you know what chai is all about because you’ve ordered it from Starbucks before you are in for a wild ride with this company. The spices and ginger used in these teas are much more pronounced in order to try and recreate the traditional chai of India and not the watered down American version. I understand that this is not a drink for everyone, but I certainly love it. It borderline hurts to drink this, and I love Bhakti for it.

This is the Semi Sweet version of the beverage, and as you would expect it tastes exactly like the original, only not as sweet. I prefer this version, because who needs that much sugar?

Also, in a moment of brilliance I decided to add some of this to the pancake batter I was making and bam chaicakes, your new favorite breakfast food. I know I will be making them again soon.

Big Island Organics Gingerade Mate

Big Island Organics Gingerade Mate

Anyone who can get this drink at their leisure is a lucky person. This is a complete treat. Spicy, sweet, tart, and bitter all at the same time. You can't get this close to an even distribution of wonderfully blended flavors easily. You take a sip and it's sweet, fantastic lemonade. Then you get the burn of the ginger followed by a little bitterness of the mate. To make something like this you have to be a mastermind of flavors and concoctions. I think that this, if put in the hands of the masses, would blow up as a company. We've become too safe with our beverages and no one wants a little bit of bang. "Oh a spicy drink? Who wants that?" Oh, I don't know. The millions of people who purchase hot sauce, jalapenos, or put ginger on their sushi. It doesn't taste like chicken wings, you idiot. Things can be spicy and sweet. Have fun with your drinks. Don't be scared.

Big Jak Iced Peach + Tea + Electrolytes

Big Jak Iced Peach + Tea + Electrolytes

Big Jak was a gambling man. He loved to play the ponies, roll the dice, and more importantly bet on the outcome of cards. Black Jack was his game. He loved it so much that he thought about starting to call himself “Big Black Jak,” but that just didn’t sound right to him, cause…well you know.

In his off time Big Jak spent his time developing beverages. He would spend hours and hours slaving away to get the balance of everything just right. The problem was that just like with the cards he always bet big. You see Big Jak may have loved black jack, but that does not mean he was any good at the game. He always bet everything he had, and had the dealer hit him, no matter what. He was so enamored with getting exactly 21 that he lost nearly every hand. This spilled over into his beverage making. The quantities of his flavorings were so high that it made them nearly undrinkable. Take this energy drink he worked on. It would have been nice to have a tasty non-carbonated energy drink that tasted like iced tea, but of course he had to go overboard. Even though he used sucralose, he used too much and it tasted so overly sweetened that you couldn’t even make out the tea flavor. In addition to that he decided to add some artificial peach flavor to it that made it just plain awful. Never before has a fruit flavoring existed that tasted so fake.

Sadly, shortly after the release of this beverage Big Jak’s bookies came looking for him and things did not bode well for him. That is why we talk about Big Jak in the past tense.
