Apple Rush Original Sparkling Apple

Apple Rush Original Sparkling Apple

If your company makes an apple soda, it’s more than likely that you are doing it all wrong. Chances are you have loaded it with sugar, or even worse, tried to make it sour apple. You needn’t bother my friends. There are only two ingredients needed for an apple soda and they are apple juice and sparkling water. I mean you could probably directly carbonate the juice and it would turn out just as good. The people at Apple Rush are smart folks. They know that sometimes people crave carbonation, but at the same time they don’t need loads of added sugar (there are 36g of sugar in this bottle, but it’s all from the fruit directly).

This is fantastic. It tastes like high quality apple juice with bubbles in it. Why would anyone need anything else out of an apple soda? I mean sure maybe you want to throw some other fruit in there, or perhaps some spices, but if you’re looking for straight up apple pop, look no further. I’m going to come close to guaranteeing that you won’t find a company who does it better.

Apple Rush Blueberry

Apple Rush Blueberry

Whenever someone offers me a fruit flavored soda that I have never tried before this is what I secretly hope it will be like. I’m in my late 30’s and I have no need for sparkly sugar water anymore. If I drank that stuff the way I used to I would be way overweight and feel like garbage all of the time. This though, this is the dream. This is just sparkling juice with no sugar added. The base is very much apple juice, which makes me wish it was autumn, well that and I’m sick of these obscenely humid 90+ degree days. So they start off with a sparkling apple juice, which would be great on its own, then they added a bunch of straight up blueberry juice, and sent the thing through the roof. When was the last time you had a blueberry beverage that actually tastes like you had a mouth full of berries instead of a mouthful of dumb candy? Like dry land (and dry air) delicious fruit sodas are not a myth. They can be found and are produced in Florida of all places. Oh man, I just imagined how humid it must be down there right now. How are there not mass suicides? My thoughts go out to you denizens of the south.

Ginger Shots Apple Ginger

Ginger Shots Apple Ginger

Around two o’clock today I started sneezing. By 4 o’clock my nose was stuffy. Come 6 o’clock I started to feel really weak. My question is who gets sick in August when it’s 90+ degrees out? Apparently this guy right here, and it couldn’t come at a worse time. In order to combat this illness I drank one of these Ginger Shots and I will probably drink a handful more over the next 24 hours. The way the ginger in these feels makes me think that it could destroy anything unhealthy in the body. I’m probably wrong, but I’ll let the placebo effect run its course.
Out of all of the ones I’ve tried this one has the most non-ginger flavor to it. The apple in this is very pleasant and its flavor isn’t completely decimated once the ginger takes over. They interweave with each other and I absolutely love it. The ginger still has a ridiculous burn that isn’t for the faint of heart, but there is more flavor to this one than the others. Dare I say that this is perfection?

Ginger Shots Pomegranate Ginger

Ginger Shots Pomegranate Ginger

Let’s face the facts. There is no one out there who is going to think that these shots are “just okay.” People are either going to love them or hate them and the decisive element is the intense burn from the ginger. Oh, that wonderful burn. It places me clearly on the “love it” side of the coin.

To be fair the additional flavors make up at best 10% of what is going on in these tiny bottles. The vast majority of the flavor is the ginger. With this one you get a little sweet pomegranate taste up front but it is quickly decimated by that ginger that I love and cherish. It makes me feel as if there is any illness lingering in my body that it doesn’t stand a chance against this beverage. If live were a videogame this would be the elixir that returned some of your hearts so you could keep adventuring.

Ginger Shots Pineapple Ginger

Ginger Shots Pineapple Ginger

They are not kidding with the name. This is one serious shot of ginger to the mouth, and it’s absolutely wonderful. This is nothing but pineapple juice and of course ginger juice and it’s very intense. In movies when people talk about the warm burn that they get from a shot of whiskey is exactly how this feels. You get one hell of a delicious burn all the way down. On top of that it tastes fantastic. It’s hard to forget about the flavor because of the intensity, but it’s there and it tastes like someone infused a pineapple with concentrated ginger. The best.

This is so intense that I kind of feel like I’m invincible because I drank it. It’s as if it’s some sort of magic potion that will protect me from any and all illnesses. I can’t wait for Mike to try these. He’s going to fall in love.

Mountain Dew Kickstart Blueberry Pomegranate

Mountain Dew Kickstart Blueberry Pomegranate

I'm beat, dude. Worked until 2, home at 2:30, asleep by quarter to 3, up at 6:30. I need a pick-me-up. I've been disappointed by Dunkin' Donuts inability to make a consistent drink. So what do I choose? I guess this Mountain Dew Kickstart from a bodega I rarely go to but needed to take a walk outside.

How is it? It's fine. I don't know to what caliber this is of a juice and an energy drink but it's got caffeine in it so I guess it will eventually do something. It's not bad. It's pretty sweet and very fruity but I think it tastes better than your run-of-the-mill energy drink. I don't know if I specifically taste blueberry or pomegranate but I'm not complaining. With a drink like this, I don't hold them to their word like I would a "real" juice. Sorry. I'm not trying to be offensive. It's like it's a sparkling juice first and everything else just peeks their little heads in and out to say hello.

I don't know if it's "helping" because I'm fading fast but I've made it to 3:30 and wasn't late for work today. Somewhere there is an accomplishment but I'm too tired to see it. Maybe...if I just close my eyes...for just a second.....

Karma Wellness Water Probiotics Berry Cherry

Karma Wellness Water Probiotics Berry Cherry

I enjoy the powder much more than the concentrate but this one didn't taste as much like Flintstone vitamins as I would have liked. It was not bad but it was just not what I thought. It was actually like a dark, sweet juice more than a water. I don't know what the line is between water and juice but if you gave this to one hundred people, I would say that everyone would call it a juice.

Karma is good at coming up with new flavors and this is good. It's not anything special. It's not a flavor that you haven't had before but they are always coming out with something new. This, if anything, is a nice, familiar juice that is low in calories and high in probiotics. That's a win, right? What more could you ask for? If you say anything you should not be so greedy. I already told you that Karma comes out with new stuff all the time. Jeez.

Hi-C Ecto Cooler

Hi-C Ecto Cooler

It’s been a long time old friend. When we first met I was merely 10 years old and even though I didn’t understand most of the jokes, I loved all things Ghostbusters. I don’t remember if I saw the movie or the cartoon first (The Real Ghostbusters, not that other garbage one) and I don’t care. All I need to know if that I was hooked. I was also hooked on “juice,” and when Hi-C combined both things it was a match made in heaven. Normally my mom would pack me a Ssips juice box in my lunch, but the times I could get her to splurge it was always for Ecto Cooler. I had no idea that this was actually a rebranding of their “Citrus Cooler” flavor and I still don’t care. It was delicious and it had the cartoon version of Slimer on it. What 10 year old suburban white boy wouldn’t love that?

Ecto Cooler was always such a specific flavor to me that as a youngster I could never quite put my finger on. It wasn’t until the company yet again rebranded the flavor as “Shoutin’ Orange Tangerine“ that I slapped my forehead and felt very dumb for not placing the flavor. At the time I had outgrown such drinks and with the lack of Slimer on the packaging it held little interest to someone in their early 20s. I later learned that in 2006 it was once again rebranded as “Crazy Citrus Cooler” and a year later it was completely discontinued.

There’s something about your thirties that feeds off of nostalgia. I had never grown tired of the Ghostbusters movies and still watched them at least once a year. I longed for times when life was simpler and I missed things from my childhood that were no longer available. When we started thiersty Dudes, we named our “Trifecta” of discontinued drinks that we longed for. They were Crystal Pepsi, Orbits and or course Ecto Cooler. We bought a 14 years expired bottle of Orbits and it tasted like salad dressing. The other day a mysterious package showed up at my door and inside was a cardboard Muon Trap that contained Ecto Cooler. I knew it was returning to shelves along with the release of the new movie (which is the most hated movie that no one has seen yet), but I really have no recollection of giving anyone from Hi-C my address. It was a complete surprise and it made my day wonderful.

I’m sitting here now, sitting in the warm shining sun and I’m sipping on a juice box. If this were 25 years ago I would be sitting on a skateboard with my best friends planning what we would do when school ended for the summer in a few weeks. Instead I am taking a break between printing shirts and working on my deck. I wish I could say that I was talking about the deck of my skateboard, but I mean the deck of my house. I’m an adult with responsibilities, but for a few short minutes it’s 1989 again and I’m drinking a tangerine/orange drink that I believe to be juice, but which only contains 10% juice. It’s mostly citrus sugar water and I don’t care. It tastes exactly like I remember and that’s all that matters. If this drink were a new product now, I would care very little about it, but since it’s something from my childhood I’m loving it. I’m not expecting this to stick around for very long. There will be a large nostalgia burst as soon as it hits shelves and then people will remember they are adults and these are the kinds of drinks you leave behind as you grow up. Who knows though? Maybe the new movie will resonate with a younger generation and they will eat (drink) it up. I may never buy it again, but I will smile every time I see it.

Love Beets Beet Juice with a Hint of Ginger

Love Beets Beet Juice with a Hint of Ginger

Do you remember the Lightning Seeds song “Pure”? Chances are you have no idea what I’m talking about. They were a band from the early 90’s that sounded more like they should have been from the 80’s. The main guy was in Big In Japan and produced some Echo & the Bunnymen records. Now that you have had your music lesson for the day that you didn’t ask for and couldn’t care less about, I will tell you my reasons for bringing them up. If I were Love Beets and for some unknown reason I decided that the masses were ready to accept beets in a big way, and a commercial was on the horizon, I would most definitely use Pure as the background music. It’s slower, yet upbeat and it would work perfect with slow motion footage of people hanging out and drinking beet juice in various scenarios. The song just popped in my head when I was drinking this, and it’s probably because of the line “Pure and simple every time.” You see the only ingredients in this beverage are beet juice, ginger juice and lemon juice concentrate (as a natural stabilizer). Lover Beets surely is both simple and pure and on top of that it’s delicious.’

It has the sweet earthy flavor of beets as that is what makes up 93% of the juice. The thing is that in the aftertaste where beet juice generally gets a really almost dirt taste, the ginger steps in and covers that up nearly completely. It also gives it a nice little burn, but nothing too intense. There’s really not much else to say about this as it really is a simple beverage that is the sum of its parts in the best way. As for Lightning Seeds, I’ll forgive them for ripping off New Order for the solo in Pure. I mean it’s a great guitar line in both songs.

Noble Organic Greens

Noble Organic Greens

What am I, an amateur? I started drinking this juice before I remembered to take a picture of it. That’s a rookie move, and I’ve been on this job for far too long to be pulling crap like that. Perhaps Old Man Literman will finally fire me this time. Can you be fired from an equal partnership? Would it have to be a hostile takeover? Should I get some tactical pants and stock up on paintballs in order to defend myself on the field of glory? That’s how hostile takeovers work, right? The bigwigs all meet up at the paintball place and just have it out? If so I’m calling you out and I’m taking you down Mike. You’re not taking my company from me, just because I forgot to take a picture until I was halfway through a juice that wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. Sure, I knew it was called “Greens,” but I wanted it have a strong vanilla and apple flavor with the beneficial greens kind of hiding in the background. Yeah, the apple and vanilla are both there, but so are the kale, flaxseed and spirulina. Actually this is pretty good. My brain was ready for one thing and was presented with another. The thing is that other thing isn’t bad at all. I bet if I got another bottle of this I would love it because I would know what to expect. This is the kind of juice that you would be served in a juice bar, and not the kind that normally comes prepackaged. I’m into it though. Actually, it’s pretty great. I will use the health benefits to help me wipe the paintball arena with that chump I call a partner. We'll see if his years of Laser Tag training has gotten him ready for the big time.
