Cheribundi Refresh Tart Cherry Cranberry

Cheribundi Refresh Tart Cherry Cranberry

If someone were to tell me that I needed to try a cherry/cranberry juice I would think, “That sounds delicious, but I bet it’s super harsh.” Both fruits are known to be a bit overwhelming in their pure form, so I was fairly shocked at how smooth this juice was. It had no hard edges, and the taste was just ridiculously good. I know this isn’t pure juice, as it’s part of their Refresh line, but I absolutely loved this. Both flavors are very present but complement each other in a way that I never would have expected. Cheribundi has never been a company to slouch on their quality, but someone must have taken great pride in concocting this mixture.

Cheribundi Refresh Cherry Limeade

Cheribundi Refresh Cherry Limeade

I saw cherries for the first time at the grocery store this weekend. That means that it's starting: Summertime. I'm not wearing any socks. The only thing that's left is to find someone selling lemonade on a street corner.

This is summer wrapped in a bottle and it's good. Everything is properly portioned and well represented, too. The cherries are tart and fruity and the limeade is slightly tart and sweet. Man. Look, I shared this with a fellow developer and in hindsight, I selfishly wish I hadn't because it's good. Is anything bad? Nope. Not in here. This is all good things. Positive. H.R. from Bad Brains would approve of the PMA of this drink.

Positive Energy Strawberry Lemonade

Positive Energy Strawberry Lemonade

Flavor-wise, this is nice. It's pretty smooth and I personally like the Stevia taste mixed with the coffee extract. It's a welcome bitterness to a sweet and fruity lemonade. What I don't like, and this just me and not at all affecting my rating, is the intense jitters I'm getting from the caffeine. It turns you into a masochist because I'm enjoying the flavor but not the after effects of it. As I said, not affecting the review.

Flavor? Yeah. Chocked full. Nice genuine strawberry flavor with a little sweet and sour from the lemonade. It's actually pretty good and would be really good in itself. I wonder why Stevia is in there at all; probably to cut down on calories. Yeah, that's probably why. I could start a juice company. I'm like a detective. Or an assumptive moron who should keep his mouth shut if he knows what's good for him.

Hawaiian OLA Noni Ginger Turmeric

Hawaiian OLA Noni Ginger Turmeric

Well this sucks.

I've recently reviewed a lot of really good turmeric drinks but this is not one of them. It's spicy. Not spicy "hot spicy" but spicy like "contains a lot of spices" spicy. Spiceful. I tried hard to like this. It's different but it's not fantastic. It gets more punishing with every sip. The more lukewarm it gets, the more thick and gritty it gets, like everything settles into a sandy mess at the bottom at when you let it sit next to you for a half hour, it just settles and gets downright thick and gross. It's now been on my desk for an hour because I cannot finish it. It's almost come full circle and gotten spicy and gritty at the same time. I feel like someone swapped out my drink with something you would order at an Indian restaurant. Ginger turmeric sounds like a great chicken dish. Ginger turmeric is a terrible, terrible drink.

Beach Day Passion - Mango

Beach Day Passion - Mango

When we were in San Diego recently I woke up early, as I am prone to do, and our friend Jay who we were staying with asked me if I wanted to go surfing. Being that I am not a fool I instantly shouted yes and we loaded the boards in his van and made for the beach. I didn’t do nearly as well as I had in the past, riding the waves, but it was still ridiculously fun, especially knowing that back home the temperature was in the negatives while I was worrying about a sunburn.

After beach fun, we headed to get tacos and I went next door to grab a beverage. How could I say no to a beverage called Beach Day after just spending the morning on the sand and in the surf? The answer is I probably should have found a way, because this was pretty ehh. It tastes like a watered down juice. It has apple and mango juices from concentrate in it, but there is no real passion fruit in here, unless it’s hidden under another category. It has a generic fruit flavor that is kind of tropical. If anything I would have to say that it tasted the most like mango out of any fruit. I didn’t let the so-soness of this get me down though. I mean I had just surfed all morning and very few things are cooler than that.

Cheribundi Tart Cherry

Cheribundi Tart Cherry

Remember when you were a kid and you would be eating fruit and your mom would say, "Don't eat too much fruit or you'll get diarrhea."? If this bottle doesn't lie, it's got fifty cherries in it. Fifty. Mom, I think that if I ate fifty cherries and didn't get diarrhea then I'm probably fine. I know they're small, but fifty is fifty is fifty. That's a buttload of cherries, bruh.

Does it taste like cherry? You bet'cha. It's actually a really good drink. It's cut with apple juice so it's not like you're drinking fifty compressed, concentrated cherries. No. It's calmed down with apple juice. You can't taste apple juice and it's also worth mentioning that it doesn't taste like cough syrup. It just tastes like you drank cherry juice. It's tart, as advertised, and made me thirsty since it properly puckered my cheeks while drinking.
Mom, you were wrong. I can eat or drink upwards and maybe more cherries without getting a loose stool. Take that "wives tales."

Positive Energy Cranberry Juice Cocktail

Positive Energy Cranberry Juice Cocktail

Cocktail is a loose term for juices. It has the main ingredient in it, but any other juice is also fair game. This cocktail includes white grape, apple, and dark cherry juices as well as the named cranberry. That’s a lot of different juices to combat for flavor, and yet the strongest flavor is the caffeine from green coffee beans. Next in line for top flavor would be the cherry and then the cranberry comes in third. There needs to be a way to disguise the taste of the caffeine better.

Red Jacket Half and Half

Red Jacket Half and Half

Folks, I feel like an idiot. I have never once in my life considered brewing tea with any hot liquid other than water. Actually the more I think about it, it would more than likely be pretty gross. This beverage wasn’t created this way, but imagine if they boiled apple juice and brewed some loose leaf tea in it. Would that be gross, or would it be awesome. I think it may depend on the season. In the Fall I bet it would be delicious and fitting, but in the summer it might seem oppressive. Now I want to perform some experiments where I brew tea in apple juice, and also brew the same type of tea in water and then add apple juice after the fact. How different do you think they would taste from each other?

None of that matters because this juice in front of me is a great twist to a modern day classic. I don’t really know if the Arnold Palmer should really be described that way, but that’s how I feel in my heart of hearts. Red Jacket not only adds their wonderful apple juice to the mix, but they also didn’t just use regular old black tea. They stepped up their game and used guayusa in the mix and it’s noticeable in the flavor, in a very good way. I will admit that apple is the strongest flavor in here, but you can definitely make out the lemon and the tea separately. It’s great, and Red Jacket has done me right once again. I mean it’s more of a Third & Third & Third and not so much a Half & Half, but who am I to complain. Now I have to go deal with the two boiling pots on my stove.

Positive Energy Orange Juice

Positive Energy Orange Juice

Most orange juices taste the same. Just like Jay said for the apple juice review for Positive Energy, they taste the same. This one is different. It's got caffeine in it, which I don't need honestly, but thanks for putting it in. What's different about it is that it has green coffee bean in it. I have grown to like that stuff. It's in the Bai, which I actually really like. It's apparently chocked full of antioxidants that you've got to be a fool to turn down. It's got a nice, slightly bitter taste that's more a different flavor than an actual "bitter" flavor but it's got a solid orange juice taste to it first which is important.

I wonder if antioxidants are going to be the new antibacterial stuff that people are worried about turning bacteria into super-bacteria with adorable little capes. Our bodies are slowly going to be immune to antioxidants and be filled with whatever antioxidants fight, probably oxidants, whatever they are. It's an endless struggle.

Forager Greens & Pineapple

Forager Greens & Pineapple

If you’ve been anywhere near a pop radio station in the past five years you’ve probably hear Katy Perry sing about her “Teenage Dream.” Yes, I sometimes find myself a sucker for homogenated radio pop and I have no qualms with that. The reason I bring this up is because when I found this bottle of juice in a Whole Foods in Salt Lake City I thought I was going to get to know my middle-aged dream. I don’t know any teenager who would be this excited about drinking a juice, but I know my fair share of people over 35 who would be pretty stoked. This juice combines kale, pineapple, cucumber, spinach, oranges, lemons and matcha green tea. I am a fan of greens (minus celery) and I’m not an complete idiot, so I absolutely love pineapples. On top of that I have never met a matcha drink (or food ) that I did not develop an instant crush on. In my mind I was going to take some long night drives to some beautiful overview and just spend some quality time with this juice.

Like a pop stat that did not live up to their record labels expectations, this juice failed to rise to the top of the charts of my taste buds. There are watered down pop songs, and then there are juices like this that rely too heavily on the greens side of their ingredients in a general way and not showcasing the pineapple aka the hook of the song. It just tastes like sweetened greens with a hint of citrus to it. It’s hard to make out the individual fruits and vegetables, which is rare in the cold pressed game. This drink is the juice equivalent of Destiny’s Child without Beyonce.

Even after all of that it’s still a great juice, it’s just unfortunate that it didn’t go where I wanted and as a result it will probably slip through the cracks and not make it to anyone’s top ten lists.
