Slow Cow

Slow Cow

When we received samples of this, we got a whole case. We wagered guess of how many cans we would have to drink before we fell into a coma of epic proportions. Soap Operas would have nothing on us.

I believe this is the first diet relaxation drink we've reviewed. The can boasts "Zero Calories." At first glance of the ingredient list I thought it didn't have any sweeteners in it at all, artificial or not. I made mention of it to my girlfriend, and started reading off the ingredients that are in it. Right at the bottom I almost missed it again, but there was that sneaky devil sucralose. I knew it had to be there somewhere, as the drink has a definite diet taste to it. It almost tastes like an overly diet Red Bull. You know that weird Smarties flavor.

For some reason I really wanted this to be blue. Cows aren't blue. Milk isn't blue. Yet, this should be blue in my mind. It is clear. It will make you mellow and sleepy though. Oh, and if anyone shaves our beards while we're in our comas, we're coming to get you once we wake up. If we happen to die, be prepared to be haunted.

SLOW COW RELAXATION DRINK, (PACK OF 4 CANS) "DO NOT FREEZE"

Rhino's Relaxation Drink Blueberry Blackberry

Rhino's Relaxation Drink Blueberry Blackberry

I've been hearing a lot about relaxation drinks lately. I haven't had the opportunity to try one until now. It's made up of a lot of juices, as well as Valerian root, L-Theanine, Lemon Balm, and Chamomile. While I can't say if the drink is relaxing, or it's the music I'm listening to (or maybe both?), I can say that it tastes really good. The blueberry/blackberry combo is really nice. The carbonation and sweetness is right on as well. This reminds me a lot of Izze sparkling juice, which makes sense since that's what this is essentially. Completely random, but I also really like how the can feels. It has a matte finish to it. OK, maybe this is relaxing me because I'm starting to ramble about how much I enjoy the feel of this can. It might be time to lie in bed and watch Arrested Development.

Venga Relax Orange, White Grape, Pink Grapefruit, White Tea

Venga Relax Orange, White Grape, Pink Grapefruit, White Tea

I can only hope beyond hope that the folks from the Amsterdam based band Vengaboys moved to Italy, took all of the money they made from their hit single We Like to Party (The Vengabus) and started a functional beverage company. I seriously don’t think I’ve thought about that band in at least 15 years, but as soon as I read the name of this company that damn song was instantly stuck in my head.

I mean this drink would totally fit into their wheelhouse, right? After all that time riding around in the Vengabus, partying all the time, they would need to just kick back and relax sometimes. The problem is EVERYONE knows about the Vengabus, so as soon as they see it they instantly switch into party mode. As a result the members of the band needed to lock themselves in the backroom of the bus and get a little herbal aid. Not pot you savage. The Vengaboys are a wholesome group that only drink copious amounts of alcohol, but it’s legal, so it’s fine…wait they are from Amsterdam…hmm. Okay when they are at home maybe they use other herbal aids, but when on tour they stick to drinks like this.

This has a nice smooth taste. You mostly get pink grapefruit out of it, but the grape and orange and maybe the tea help to mellow out the acidity of it. On the opposite side of the spectrum all of the juices help to negate the bitterness that is normally associated with white tea. It all works together wonderfully.

So not only does this drink help to chill you out (but not make you sleepy) it also does it in a way that tastes great and doesn’t leave you with any sort of medicinal/herbal aftertaste. You hang out in the back of the bus for a hundred miles or so and then you’re ready to party again from New York to San Francisco and wherever else your dancing dreams may take you.

Good Night Drink 'n' Dream

Good Night Drink 'n' Dream

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love the design on this can. It may be the best looking packaging of anything we've reviewed yet. It's simple and pleasant. From color to typeface everything is perfect.

I couldn't sleep last night. I blame this on my cat. Earlier in the day I was sitting on my bed reading, and she jumped up and curled into a ball under my arm. I took advantage of this rare scenario and ended up falling asleep. Cut to the middle of the night and I'm still awake after watching yet another mediocre movie. I grabbed this from the fridge and drank it down. It is lightly carbonated with a strawberry taste to it. It's a very specific strawberry taste, not like biting into a big juicy berry. It took me awhile to figure it out, but it reminds me of the strawberry fluoride that you got at the dentist when you were a kid. The thing is this wasn't gross. Yes it tastes slightly medicinal, but was pleasant in a way that I didn't expect.

It didn't work like I had hoped it would. I was probably being impatient though as it was late, and all I wanted to do was sleep. Miracle cures don't exist. Remember that. After awhile (it seemed like forever, but was probably about a half hour) I passed out to a dream filled slumber. In one of the dreams I was on a road trip in a van with a bunch of friends and their fathers. We stopped at a weird rest stop and Mike and I looked at strange drinks. I guess that's not too far from my real life, except in the dream I drove 16 hours straight. Sometimes dreams are just more exhausting than real life.

Marley's Mellow Mood Citrus

Marley's Mellow Mood Citrus

Wait there are hyper hippies in the world? This is a Bob Marley "anti-energy" drink. It has valerian root, chamomile, melatonin, and various other ingredients in it to relax you, or "mellow you out." I got it because I thought it was a hysterical idea, and packaging. It turned out to be pretty darn delicious. It doesn't have any sort of chemical taste to it, like a lot of energy drinks do. The citrus doesn't just taste like lemon, lime and orange. I taste a hint of pineapple and some others in there as well. I was actually shocked that about fifteen minutes after I drank it, I definitely crashed, and just wanted to lay in a warm cozy bed. I wonder if this will become a new trend, and some terrible companies will pop up with more "city themes." They will advertise that it will help bring you down for a late night coke binge. Until now I guess it will be marketed towards the strange girls who were always in your art class in high school that talked to much about absolutely nothing.

Marley's Mellow Mood Black Tea, Peach, Raspberry, and Passion Fruit

Marley's Mellow Mood Black Tea, Peach, Raspberry, and Passion Fruit

Everyone who brought your hemp necklaces, hemp bracelets, and copies of Legalize It can leave. You, in the back using your dreads as a pillow, go home. This tea is for the Everyman man.

This tea is delicious. I don't care for peaches. So sue me. I never did. The passionfruit, on the other hand, is quite prominent. You get a nice, subtle bite from the cane sugar, which I am a fan of. I haven't felt any of the effects of the valerian root or melatonin, but maybe I was already a bit sleepy from a large dinner.

This is a legit tea as far as tea goes. Don't think of it as a hippy drink because it's too fantastic to be typecast. Now Ben Stiller...you can typecast him all the darn time.

Drank Extreme Relaxation Beverage

Drank Extreme Relaxation Beverage

The original Drank was a southern hip hop "beverage." It was normally Sprite with a bottle of codeine cough syrup dumped in it. Sometimes Jolly Ranchers were thrown in for good measure.
Now this is a mass produced "safe" version. It's pretty much a very light grape pop with rose hips, melatonin and Valerian Root thrown in.
I expected this to be very thick on syrupy, as I image the original version was. It really just tastes like a tame grape soda.
It definitely relaxes you and makes you sleepy. As the can says "slow your roll."

Sippin Syrup Purple

Sippin Syrup Purple

You know how you sometimes buy a two-liter of soda pop and it sits in your fridge too long, because you're not a glutton who needs that much cruddy soda in your life? It's been in there so long that it has lost a lot of its carbonation and it's on the verge of becoming flat. It has just the most minuscule amount of fizz. Okay remember how that feels in your mouth. Now think about a grape little Huggie. You know the drinks for kids that come in those tiny translucent plastic bottles. Now think of a melted grape freezie pop. Now in your mind mix all three and don't forget to shake vigorously to get rid of a little more of that carbonation. Now you have Sippin Syrup.
I didn't experience any relaxation from this at all. I was a bit tired before I drank it, and if anything it woke me up a little bit more. It has the same stuff in it as other relaxation drinks I've had. It must just not be in as high quantities.

The Relaxing Company Relaxing Tea

The Relaxing Company Relaxing Tea

This is nice. It just tastes like a decent quality iced tea sweetened with agave. If someone poured me a glass, I would have no idea, based on taste, that it was anything other than a normal iced tea.
This doesn't have all of the crazy stuff that the other relaxation drinks I've had in the past have. It's just tea, sweetener and kava root. It doesn't make you pass out like the other varieties do, but it does relax you and just calms you out. I'm pretty sure you could down one of these in the middle of a stressful day, and you wouldn't want to take a nap, but you would probably feel better.
I don't know if it's really related or not, but I did have a bunch of weird dreams last night after I drank it. I was the only real member of my band on a tour (our friends Bedford Falls from Wales were filling in for every other instrument), we played to a crowd of zombies, and I had to bash them with my bass, then we went and looted my absentee landlord's other property. You know, just like real life. All of it.

The Relaxing Company Mary Jane's Relaxing Soda

The Relaxing Company Mary Jane's Relaxing Soda

Well my mom took one sip of this and said "Well that's gross." She also lives on water and diet store brand pop, so she's not much of an authority.
My review is that it tastes like a fairly decent cola. I think it's way better than a Pepsi or Coke, but not as tasty as some gourmet colas I've had.
The name may make you think that there is weed in this, since it's also a relaxing soda. Fear not, no illegal drugs are used in the making of this soda. I guess I can't vouch for the sobriety of the workers who make it. It does have passionflower and kava in it, which can help one to relax. It won't knock you out like other relaxations do.
