Lychee (6 reviews)
Cozzo Qbic Lychee
One reason you don't mess around with a Thirsty Dude is because we're overly sarcastic, very quick witted, and could destroy most anyone in a battle of wits. Another reason is because we stock all sorts of drinks that you don't know exist so when you ask, jokingly, for something "chunky and slimy", there is a good chance we can product such a drink with ease and you will be stuck drinking your own words.
One of my bosses requested the previously mentioned variety of drink and I was lucky enough to have on in the fridge at that moment, so from unsuspecting, funny suggestion to sorry and chunks took all of five minutes.
This is a stretch for me to say. I will say it, because I mean it, though, so here goes. This is the best lychee drink and the best nata de coco drink I've ever had. It's got a great lychee flavor and is very strong scented. Very perfumey, like an old woman that you don't mind sitting next to on the bus. The coco chunks have a great, fun, consistency that isn't too hard, and isn't too soft. It's not like an aloe as it has way more bite to it. I could only describe it as a very, very soft eraser. I liked it and would drink it again. Thank you Malaysia, the gayest country in Asia.

President's Choice Sparkling Soda Lychee
I like eating fresh lychee fruit. Sure it might have a consistency that I can only liken to an eyeball, but it tastes pretty awesome. Something horrible happens when that fruit is transformed into drink form. It somehow starts to taste the was I can only assume an old lady would. Like a perfume from the 1940s. That would be the opposite of awesome.
I've had this sitting around for probably six months. Because the can was white I thought it was diet (all diet pops from my youth were in white cans). That and my fear of lychee drinks put it on the back burner. Tonight I decided to suck it up and for my bravery I was rewarded. President's Choice did something right with this drink. They have kept the flavor of the fruit intact without bringing out the perfumey aspect of it. It's a very light beverage that I would be happy to drink again. Thanks Canada.

Mong Lee Shang Grass Jelly Drink Lychee
It's been awhile since I have delved into the world of unusual Asian beverages. I feel I'm about due to have some added texture in my drink. As a result I find myself sitting down with a good book and a can of grass jelly drink. Let me put my feet up, crack this can open, and begin our little adventure.
Before I even had the can completely open the smell of lychee was in the air. It's sweet, fragrant, and doesn't really smell like something you should consume. My first sip was all liquid, and all lychee. What is it about that fruit that makes it taste vaguely like perfume? I've had some lychee drinks in the past that I just couldn't finish, and I've also had a couple that I found to be quite pleasant. Luckily this can of Mone Lee Shang falls into the latter category. It definitely tastes like a perfume, but in an almost candy-like way. It's similar to those Violet candies that old ladies and Editor Dan love.
Before I took another sip i swirled the can around to mix up the grass jelly. That did the job. My second gulp was full of little gelatinous cubes. I know to a lot of people that would probably be disgusting, but I've grown to love a little texture in my drinks. They taste like a honey sweetened iced tea that was somehow made into Jello. If you pour this drink into a glass, so you can actually see the cubes it even looks like Jello that is the color of iced tea. The flavor of the grass jelly balanced out the lychee even more and made this drink truly enjoyable. I've read that grass jelly drinks are consumed in Asia as a way to beat the heat. It's pretty warm out there today, and I can concur that it helped me to fight the heat.

Cici Jelly Juice Lychee
You know how you have a grandma? I love my gramma. She makes the best cookies. It's a shame they had to juice her to make this drink. As you know, I am foolin' 'round here. Lychee is a strange fruit to me. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I loathe it. It's a fruity, nutty flavor that is very strong. Combined with the nata de coco and the fact that this juice is in a pouch, it had to be done.
It is actually one of the better lychee drinks I've had and if you like lychee, you should try it. There are about 1,000,000 chunks per sip (cps) so if you aren't a fan or you don't think you can look past them, perhaps the Maaza lychee juice is more your speed. Think of this drink as a poorly pureed, homemade lychee juice.
Honestly, for $0.60, you can't really lose, and there are more that I will probably try in the upcoming months. As if it needs to be said, I got this at an Asian market.

Maaza Lychee
Smell? Eh, not too desirable. Taste? Eh, not too desira...wait...good. Let's try that again. Smell? Weird. It’s really not good. Downright bad. The initial taste is also not that good. The tail end and aftertaste are good though, which is why you keep coming back for another sip, all the while, enduring 50% bad for the 50% good.
It's hard to get a hold of because it's all over the place. You know the payoff will be worth it, but at what cost? It almost doesn't want you to come back because it's so uninviting.

Mogu Mogu Lychee
I'll tell you what I love. Giving any drink with nata de coco or aloe vera in it to unsuspecting people. Who thinks that there are chunks in drinks? Who doesn't look at what they are drinking if it comes in a clear bottle? Suckers, that's who.
Onward to the review:
Way better than the apple lemon nata de coco drink I had last week. I'm not playing favorites, but this is better. The lychee gives it a nice floral aroma and the chunks were marinated with the hint of lychee so every time you bit into one, it's like a rush of flowers in your senses. The flavor isn't too sweet and doesn't have that poison sting that a lot of Asian drinks have.
This is on par with some lychee drinks I've had, which is good. Familiar. Familiar is good.
