Made Mango Lemonade

Made Mango Lemonade

Made, well Made makes things simple. Unlike a lot of companies they know that people don’t need/want a lot of extraneous garbage in their beverages. When someone orders flavored lemonade they want water, lemon juice, sugar and whatever fruit juice is flavoring it. Anything else is just unnecessary. Little kids on the side of the road don’t even give you that much. To be fair this is way better than any roadside lemonade I’ve ever tasted, so that little bit extra is well played.

The way the levels are in these ingredients leaves it more mango than lemonade. I’m okay with that. It is a bit sweeter than I would like it to be, as you lost all but the faintest tinge of the sourness of the lemon. For prepackaged lemonade it’s AOK though.

Did Made start off as a little roadside stand run by a couple of youngsters? As they grew older did they start buying out other kids stands? Do they represent the interests of Big Lemonade? I have no idea, and I honestly don’t care. It’s a drink that I enjoy that doesn’t have weird artificial ingredients in it. It also has a nice “retro” look to its label. Get into it.

Snapple Lemon Daze Mango Lemonade

Snapple Lemon Daze Mango Lemonade

It was recently pointed out to me that the time from the release of Dazed and Confused until now it longer than the time when the movie is supposed to take place until it was released. That seems crazy and it makes me feel so damn old. I remember when that movie came out. It was so long ago that it was pre straight edge me, and I hung out with a bunch of stoners all the time, who always wanted to watch The Wall high. You can all breath a sigh of relief that I didn’t participate in that, but I did remember agreeing with everyone that we all needed to be stoned to watch Dazed and Confused. I don’t think anyone had any weed, so it never happened and we just watched it sober…I think.

This is all way too much information that only seems relevant due to the fact that both the movie and this drink’s names contain some form of the word “daze.” I’ll tell you where it comes in, I love that movie now even more than I did when I was a teenage dirtbag. The story of teenagers starting kicking off the opening night of summer break is wonderful and heartwarming. What way to celebrate summer than with a nice cold lemonade? Snapple thought the same thing and released its new line just as summer was coming around. Some people, the characters in the movie included, would probably prefer to down a frosty beer, but I’ll stick with my lemonade…especially one like this.

As soon as you twist off the cap the most pleasant fruity scent enters your nostrils and you know you’re in for a good time. The mango flavoring is perfect. Even though mango juice isn’t listed on the ingredients list, they do a good job of making it taste just like the fruit. The lemonade base is nothing to scoff at either, although I could have done with a little less sugar in order to up the tartness just a little. I just looked and there are 45g of sugar in here, maybe “a little less sugar” should have been “cut the sugar in half.” Even with it’s cavity creating powers this is a drink to be reckoned with and I will be enjoying a quite a few on the hot days and long nights to come. On those nights don’t be worried about how many you drink when you climb the water tower. The only way they could make you fall is if you have terrible balance when you obviously pee off the top like any red blooded American would.

Martinelli's Mango Lemonade

Martinelli's Mango Lemonade

I put a limit on myself at the beginning of the year. I was not allowed to buy any new drinks until I got through everything that I had at home. For those of you who have had the pleasure of visiting my palatial two bedroom apartment you probably noticed that I have (had) cupboards and shelves chock full of drinks (not to mention the fridge). I had drinks that I had acquired over a year ago, just sitting there waiting to be reviewed. Most of it was drinks that I didn’t have a single iota of excitement about, but for the sake of science I had to push through them all. It took me about two months, but here I am with only two drinks left (I cheated a few times and bought some new juices, sue me…seriously you can try, but I have no money, nor drinks to give up).

For the second last drink of my back stock I have a lemonade that I was actually excited about, but I had wanted to wait until the weather was fittingly nice to drink it. Who wants to drink lemonade in the winter, unless you have the heat cranked, some freshly cut grass candles lit and Summer Breeze blasting on the hi-fi to fool yourself into a different season? I pressed on though and drank this little guy down faster than you would believe. It’s great. Some would say that it is close to perfection. It has the good side of lemon flavor, just enough sugar to not pinch your cheeks all the way, and an authentic mango flavor that just cannot be messed with. The mango flavor is ever so slightly lower than that of the lemon, and that is how flavored lemonade should be. It makes me wish it was summer more than ever.

Now I just have one more drink to get through and I can go scour the Earth looking for more drinks again. It feels good to be so close to leveling out.

Bolthouse Farms Mango Lemonade

Bolthouse Farms Mango Lemonade

I've said it before and I'll say it again 2011 is the summer of lemonade. The amount I have consumed it absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe it has taken me so long to try the Bolthouse Farms version, as I am a huge fan of their beverages. Wrap your brain grapes around that.

This is thicker than most lemonades. It doesn't have the consistency of a smoothie, but it's way denser than your average glass of lemon water. The thickness is due to the mango puree they use to flavor it. It really is a perfect blend of lemon and mango. It's more of a breakfast drink. I can see waking up making a nice large breakfast and settling down on my nonexistent back porch to enjoy it with a glass of this lemonade.

Santa Cruz Organic Mango Lemonade

Santa Cruz Organic Mango Lemonade

Mike's baby mama has gotten into "extreme couponing." Okay, she's more than just his baby-mama; she's his "live in girlfriend." Okay, they own a house together, have a kid and are as happy as two people who have a screaming five-month-old baby can be. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that she used her newfound magic to get like 30 bottles of these for free. The thing is that Mike never let me know, so I went out and bought a few bottles like a chump.

I know everyone is complaining about it, but it is obscenely hot out. It got up to 91 degrees in Buffalo today. I know to a lot of other areas that probably sounds like a joke, but I am in no way accustomed to the heat and the humidity is the worst. I also spent way too long in an attic today that easily broke 100. I really need to put a thermometer up there to find out for sure. Due to this heat/humidity my normally obscene beverage intake is even higher.

I opened this bottle to have just a glass to cool my down. Now it's all but gone. It's spectacular. The lemonade is tart without having too much of a cheek pinch to it. It would be top grade lemonade to begin with, but the mango is the real gem in here. The flavor is so strong and wonderful. It tastes like I mixed a glass of outstanding lemonade with a glass of
Looza mango juice. It definitely helped cool me down. I think I may need another bottle though. I'm sweating just typing this.sweating just typing this.
