Tropical Citrus (5 reviews)
Green Fit Tropical Citrus
There are tens of thousands of drinks available throughout the world to drink for pleasure. We drink them everyday and most of the time and think nothing of it. Then there is the class of drinks that you drink for function. They are the drinks that you more than likely would never drink unless it was for a specific purpose. Energy drinks fall under this category, as do health shakes and protein drinks. They are formatted to serve a specific purpose, and because of that the taste generally suffers. Green Fit has created a drink that combines six different functional beverages into one; protein, energy, fiber, antioxidants, electrolytes and green superfoods. One would think that by combining six different types of drinks (who generally aren’t all that tasty on their own) that the result would be total swill. While it’s not my favorite thing in the world, and I wouldn’t grab one for enjoyment, they were able to make a very palatable, very functional drink.
The drink has a citrus taste that masks most of the grossness that the ingredients would normally bring on. We’re talking about whey protein, guarana extract, flax oil, spirulina extract, chlorella extract, fenugreek extract, and konjac. That’s some pretty gross tasting stuff on it’s own. The drink also isn’t as thick as you would expect it to be. It has the consistency that falls somewhere between Vitamin Water and 100% juice. They also use stevia to sweeten it, and mask the flavor so it has that coolness to it. If they had added a little more orange juice, and ditched the stevia, this could be down right nice, but even though they didn’t it is still passable and one of the better tasting functional beverages that I have tried.

Function Alternative Energy Tropical Citrus
I’ve talked about this before, but energy drinks had really overrun our society. I have so many friends who can’t sleep at night because of their intake, and then in the morning they feel like a filth bin, and they drink more energy drinks just to get through the day. It’s a sad cycle that can be cleared up by some detox time in which people will feel like complete garbage for a while.
I luckily am not in this camp, but I feel a lesser version of it. I’ve been lucky that at any point in my life I’ve been able to fall asleep within five minutes of my head hitting a pillow. This past week things have been different. The little sleep I’ve been able to get has been complete crap. I wake up feeling terrible. I keep saying I just need to buy a new bed, as I’ve had mine forever, but secretly I think that my sensitivity to caffeine is getting worse. It used to be if I drank anything with caffeine after 5PM I wouldn’t get to sleep until 3 or 4 in the morning. My 5PM cut off seems to be getting much earlier now. I’m not at a point where I need to drink an energy drink, or coffee every morning to get through the day without being miserable. I really hope that I never get to that point. I did feel it would be a wise idea to drink this Function before I went for a little hike with some friends, seeing as my sleep was limited and poor.
This doesn’t really fall under the same category for me because it doesn’t have the chemical garbage like taurine to give you energy, that makes you crash like a kamikaze. Instead this has the natural stimulus’ caffeine, muira puama root extract, epimedium extract, guarana seed extract, catuaba bark extract and yerba mate leaf extract. It doesn’t taste like a normal energy drink, which the bottle boasts, but I mourn. It also leaves you with less of a crash. That is something I can get behind. Flavor-wise it does have a tropical fruit juice flavor, but there are no individually distinct fruits in there. It just has a general tropical flavor mixed with a bit of the yerba mate flavor. Expecting more of a sports drink type flavor the yerba mate can be a bit off-putting, but when you know to expect it, it’s welcomed.

Jones 24c Tropical Citrus
Let me start off by saying that I found this drink at Big Lots. Not only that, but it was also on clearance. Something on mark down at a discount store generally means that this product has been discontinued. After a quick check I see that it is listed in the "Retired Products” section on the Jones website. I wonder how old this is. There’s no expiration date to be found on it. I don’t blame them for discontinuing it. It’s not very memorable. It’s basically Jones’ version of the Energy flavored Vitamin Water, except it doesn’t taste as strong, or as good. There is no specific citrus flavor to it. It’s just nondescript tropical citrus. It’s a water drink, so I don’t expect the flavor to be very strong, but the problem with this is unlike Vitamin Water you can taste the vitamin undertones in it. Vitamins don’t exactly taste wonderful, so that’s kind of a deal breaker. With so many other vitamin based drinks on the market these days this beverage falls short. Jones, I’ve tried a bunch of your products, and I have to say, stick with what you know…soda pop.

Vidration Energy Tropical Citrus
I took one sip of this whist driving and instantly closed it up and threw it in the back seat. This is not good by a long shot. It's like the company took every little thing that anybody didn't like about Vitamin Water, then mixed in Splenda for a sweetener and finally dumped some taurine and caffeine in there to give it a slight chemical energy drink taste.
Splenda has to be my least favorite sweetener. I can get by with other artificial "diet" sweeteners, but Splenda is just chalky and terrible beyond belief. This is supposed to be tropical citrus flavored, and I guess that is hidden underneath all of that fake sugar, but it's hard to make it out through the haze.

Chadwick Bay Tropical Citrus
This is a good tropical juice. I feel like most companies always use banana as filler for anything tropical. I kind of hate bananas. I'd like to think that the folks at Chadwick Bay agree with my anti-banana sentiments and have kept them out of this drink for no other reason than bananas suck.
Pineapple, on the other hand, is a fruit that I can fully get behind, and it's pulling this dog sled. It's ably backed up by orange, papaya, peach, grape and apple. Now that's a team that's reaching for the gold medal.
Even though this has a ton of citrus is it, it's not harsh on your throat at all. Smooth deliciousness. Now mush!
