Iconic Healthy Lifestyle Beverage Pure Vanilla Bean

Iconic Healthy Lifestyle Beverage Pure Vanilla Bean
Sometimes I wish that nutritional/protein drinks came in a wider range of flavors. There are many fruits that would pair well with whey protein/milk type drinks. There is a whole world of flavors out there that are being neglected, but when a company comes along that is fruity in the back of my mind I'm always thinking, man I wish this were chocolate or vanilla. It's been programmed into my being that those are the only true satiating flavors that can be nutritional. It's dumb, but that's how I work.

Iconic has mixed protein, fiber, B12 (for energy) as well as choline and amino acids (to keep you focused) into a nice non-chalky vanilla beverage. It's like thick vanilla milk. The vanilla isn't too overwhelming, but it's there enough for you to say, “Hey, this is a decent vanilla drink.” I would have preferred it to be dairy free, but they went the whole soy, gluten and lactose free route, which I can respect. There are people out there who need their diets to be free of these things, while I just find dairy gross in theory (although I still eat far too much ice cream).

It seems like we've been reviewing a decent amount of beverages of this type lately and they each have their own specific attributes. Iconic is more milk-like than the others. There is no grit to it at all, and the use of agave as a sweetener was a great choice. Sure they use stevia as well, but it's nice and hidden.

Mission Root Amla

Mission Root Amla
You mission, whether you choose to accept it or not is to find a cache of Mission Root beverages and acquire them all, especially those of the amla variety. . Be it my legal or nefarious means matters not to me, just as long as you get to taste this sweet nectar. Actually, let me add to that mission, procure the beverages, try them for yourself and them bring the rest of them to me. I want them, and I need them.

This has the taste of a wonderful fresh pressed ginger beverage, but without the burn. It's crazy how much it tastes like a nice agave sweetened ginger, yet the flaming “aftertaste” is nowhere to be found. I've never experienced it before. On top of that amla is added, which is another name for Indian gooseberries, which Wikipedia tells me is “sour, bitter and astringent.” I taste none of those things in this drink. It's sweet, without being overly sweet and there is another flavor in there besides the ginger and the agave, but it doesn't taste like the description. It has a slight fruity flavor. Whatever it tastes like, it's rich in antioxidants and this beverage is on the healthier side of things; all the more reason for you to start planning on scheming how you are going to get this in your life. I expect a full report on what went down in order for you to possess this wonderful drink on my desk by 5pm Friday. So, you know, you better hurry.

Mission Root Tulsi

Mission Root Tulsi
It seems that more and more people are turning their backs on modern medicine. While I do believe that it has its merits and most definitely can help people, the bottom line is that it is a money making empire. Things are prescribed that can have strange side effects, when there are natural options out there that would help you without making you suffer from things like aches and pains, dry mouth, bowel control problems, heart stoppage, compulsive gambling and what not. I for one am glad that holistic medicine is on the rise once again. I didn't have health insurance for ten years, so I relied on it a lot when I got fell ill. The amount of garlic cloves I consumed was astronomical.

Mission Root believes in the holistic side of life. They follow a Ayurvedic lifestyle, which involves meditation, yoga, deep breathing and a special healthy diet. To help spread the word of this to others they have created these “teas.”

First off, you're probably wondering, as I was, what tulsi is. Well, it's an herb that is used to cleanse the respiratory system and to relieve digestive pressure. It is often used as a treatment for colds and coughs. You mix that in with the magical properties of ginger, and you have yourself this nice healthy drink that is fairly sweet (due to the agave) and has a vague floral taste. I had expected this to have a much stronger ginger taste, but it's mostly tulsi and agave with some hints of ginger in the background. It's a fairly unusual tasting tea, but it's in an interesting way that makes you keep drinking it instead of a gross, “this needs to go in the filth bin instantly” way.

Also, note that 5% of their profits are donated to Akshaya Patra, the world's largest NGO school meal program.
