Teas' Tea Organic Mango Yuzu Green Tea

Teas' Tea Organic Mango Yuzu Green Tea

Teas’ Tea, and their parent company Ito En, have been long time favorites of us here at Thirsty Dudes. They make quality products that taste like real tea and not some strange powder. After years of their standard flavors they seem to be expanding their line a lot over the past bit of time. As long as the staples stick around you will hear no complaints from this guy. I bought this bottle when Mike and I joked about walking from downtown Brooklyn to JFK and then ended up walking half of the way before we realized we were being ridiculous and we should just get on a train, whose stops we had passed the entire way. We ended up walking 35 miles over a few days and never complained once. That was a good hang. Anyway, we walked. I was thirsty. We hit up a bodega, where I was planning on grabbing a Guayaki, but instead happily ended up with this. I wasn’t disappointed at all. This is one of the best teas I’ve had in a long time. It’s only slightly sweet, which is always a plus and the flavors really shined. Yuzu is a citrus fruit that I hadn’t thought I had tried before, but as soon as I tasted it I was immediately reminded of one of the original Sobe flavors that used to come in glass bottles. I drank far too many of those things in the back room of my first job at a supermarket to forget that flavor. Did I steal them when doing returns? I admit nothing. You do your research. I actually searched on my own the old Google and yuzu is definitely a fruit used by Sobe. So if you remember Sobe in the late 90s you probably can imagine what this tastes like. Man I miss those drinks, they just aren’t the same now. Okay, back on topic, this is really delicious and I can’t encourage you enough to get out there and try it.

Honest Organic Mango Mate Black Tea

Honest Organic Mango Mate Black Tea

It’s never too late to catch up and get with the times. Actually the times seem pretty terrible to me nowadays, so maybe getting with them is not the best of ideas. Let’s rephrase that and say it’s never too late to change and try to better yourself and expand your world view. Honest gets that. They have an organic line, which is always a plus, but more importantly they have started releasing some mate teas. Sure it’s a mix of mate and black tea, but it’s still moving in the right direction and I love it. I’m a sucker for mate so any amount of it is a positive to me. I also see this as a great introduction, or a stepping stone if you will, to get people into yerba mate. I can see stepping into it blind being a bit strange as the earthy flavor could be off-putting if you are expecting it to be like black or green tea. This has a mild earth flavor. It’s smoother because of the black tea ( and the sugar). It’s a great balance between the two. The mango flavor comes from mango puree as well, so that means it’s wonderful. I hope they expand their products into a full yerba mate line. Ahh to dream.

Core Organic Blueberry

Core Organic Blueberry

You know. It's a juice.

Wild blueberry. Is that different than a "regular" blueberry? I feel like you could add adjectives to anything and as long as it's not "wrong," it's right. "Well you do find them in the wild so they are technically wild blueberries. LOLZ." Farmers. Whatever, dudes.

This is fine. I didn't expect much as it's a Stevia juice with low calories. They kind of take the form of a fruit flavored sugar after a while. This doesn't taste bad but it hardly tastes like any blueberry I've ever tasted and I've been known to eat a blueberry every now and then. At ten calories per bottle though, I cannot and will not complain. This is actually a decent drink that met my expectations and allowed me to happily drink while not knowing if I was going to have some sort of caloric overload or sugar high, neither of which I want.

Teas' Tea Organic Lightly Sweet Peach Ginger Black Tea

Teas' Tea Organic Lightly Sweet Peach Ginger Black Tea

I know I can be a stickler, but I really would prefer if companies named their products in the order of the prominent flavors. For example, this is labeled peach ginger, but in my mind it should be ginger peach. That’s correct, for the first time ever a beverage has peach in it and it is not the flavor that is smacking you a good one, right in the kisser. In fact both flavors in here are fairly tame, but of the two, ginger is what I am getting the most of. They are not kidding when they say this is lightly sweet. Even though it’s 20g of sugar, it tastes on the border of being unsweetened, which is where I like my iced tea to reside. So it’s a black tea with a tad bit of sugar in it that tastes like it was steeped with a bunch of ginger in it (not enough to give it a burn, but enough for the flavor to be there) and then a single slice of peach was allowed to soak in it while it cooled down. I know I was complaining earlier, but this really is a nice tea, and I apparently just like to complain about something in every situation. I need help.

Teas' Tea Organic Hibiscus Green Tea

Teas' Tea Organic Hibiscus Green Tea

The Ito En / Teas’ Tea company doesn’t mess around. They keep things simple, natural and delicious. Their iced teas actually taste like tea instead of sugar, like most companies. They know the secret that tea is delicious on its own and it does not need to be disguised by sweeteners. Sure sometimes you want a little something extra in it, but for those times you certainly do not need to go overboard and dump the equivalent of a semi’s load into a single bottle. With this “Lightly Sweet” tea they added 20g of sugar, as opposed to the 30-40g range that a lot of teas fall into. To be honest I didn’t even need that much sugar. I think it detracts a bit from the green tea and hibiscus. When you use quality ingredients you don’t need to mask the way they taste, and there is nothing but quality in this bottle. Do I think the floral taste would have been better without any sugar? Yes, I do. Do I really mind that they added some? No. It is still delicious. I believe hibiscus is at its peak when it is paired with some spices, such as cinnamon, but I do think it has a lot to offer in solo form and this drink proves that.

Core Organic Orange Clementine

Core Organic Orange Clementine

I’m not exactly sure what this beverage is supposed to be. It’s not really a juice, but it’s also not a sports drink. The bottle says it is an “organic fruit infused beverage,” and according to the ingredients list it’s kind of a mix of everything. It is composed of coconut water, 4% juice, white tea, and a whole mess of organic, zero calorie sweeteners. The result just tastes a bit generic, like some random “juice” box you’d get as a kid, expect now it tastes overly diet. This sort of tastes a modern version of Kool Aid. The orange/clementine flavor is there, but it tastes a bit powdery. I appreciate what they are trying to do with this, but the arrow is hitting just outside of the target. It’s almost good, but it just doesn’t mess right.

Matcha Love Organic Unsweetened Matcha + Green Tea

Matcha Love Organic Unsweetened Matcha + Green Tea

I’m not sure if this is the same product that comes in the little cans, or if there is something different about it because it says it’s organic and over 3x the quantity. What I do know is that this tastes like a wonderfully delicious unsweetened green tea. It’s slightly bitter, but in a way that is enjoyable instead of distracting. I didn’t know something could be bitter and smooth at the same time, but that’s what we have here. This is the baseline from which all unsweetened green tea should be compared.

Matcha Love Organic Unsweetened Matcha + Green Tea Ginger

Matcha Love Organic Unsweetened Matcha + Green Tea Ginger

This is the liquid equivalent of walking up to a roulette table placing down most of your stack on 13 black. You watch that wheel spin and the ball is going around and around. It starts slowing down and you can’t believe your eyes it looks like you are going to win and win big. At the last moment it pops out and plops into 36 red. Sure you played a safe bet and also put down a little money on the last row of 2:1 odds, but the big money is gone. It’s not a horrible loss, you came out okay, but it had such potential to be life changing.

This is simply brewed green tea with matcha and ginger root in it. No sugar and no other extraneous additives. It should be wonderful in its simplicity. It tastes like tea. It tastes like real ginger. It’s good. If you brewed this at home you wouldn’t think twice about it, but there’s something just a little off that makes you question if it is worth purchasing. That thing is it’s a little on the watery side, which leads to it being a bit weak. I like my green tea strong and prominent. This is like beginners green tea. It’s as if there is extra water in it to act as training wheels for those not used to the wonderfully strong bitterness that it usually has. Metaphors and similes aside, this is enjoyable, but it could be amazing and it just slightly missed that mark.

Noble Organic Greens

Noble Organic Greens

What am I, an amateur? I started drinking this juice before I remembered to take a picture of it. That’s a rookie move, and I’ve been on this job for far too long to be pulling crap like that. Perhaps Old Man Literman will finally fire me this time. Can you be fired from an equal partnership? Would it have to be a hostile takeover? Should I get some tactical pants and stock up on paintballs in order to defend myself on the field of glory? That’s how hostile takeovers work, right? The bigwigs all meet up at the paintball place and just have it out? If so I’m calling you out and I’m taking you down Mike. You’re not taking my company from me, just because I forgot to take a picture until I was halfway through a juice that wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. Sure, I knew it was called “Greens,” but I wanted it have a strong vanilla and apple flavor with the beneficial greens kind of hiding in the background. Yeah, the apple and vanilla are both there, but so are the kale, flaxseed and spirulina. Actually this is pretty good. My brain was ready for one thing and was presented with another. The thing is that other thing isn’t bad at all. I bet if I got another bottle of this I would love it because I would know what to expect. This is the kind of juice that you would be served in a juice bar, and not the kind that normally comes prepackaged. I’m into it though. Actually, it’s pretty great. I will use the health benefits to help me wipe the paintball arena with that chump I call a partner. We'll see if his years of Laser Tag training has gotten him ready for the big time.

Noble Organic Chia Beet

Noble Organic Chia Beet

I like everything about this juice. I mean I really like everything about this drink, but I have a problem with it. You see it’s called Chia Beet and the front label says it’s beets, berries and chia seed juice, which would be all well and good if the main ingredient weren’t orange juice. The main flavor in this bottle is orange juice with beets, berries and chia seed added to it (with no added texture I'd like to note). I went into this expecting an earthy berry drink and what I got was an interesting twist on a morning favorite. As I said I really like it, I just wish it labeled itself as what it is. There is no shame in it. You are a beautiful juice. Accept yourself and let the world know what you are and let them know just how wonderful you are. Blueberries, strawberries, beets and chia seeds added to orange juice is not a common thing, but it is a very delicious thing. Be strong. Be proud.
