Iced Tea - 901 Reviews

Purps Fuel

Purps Fuel
This is my favorite of the Purps line. It is an energy drink that doesn't taste like a typical energy drink because it doesn't have all of the chemical garbage in it. Sure it doesn't give you an unnatural rush, but at least you don't feel like you are being poisoned while you drink it. Instead of taurine and other artificial garbage the energy boost in this can comes from yerba mate, green tea, guarana and panax ginseng root. It's all vitamins and caffeine that is found naturally. If that wasn't enough to sell you the taste is great as well. It is a carbonated yerba mate tea with mangosteen, maqui berry, blueberry, grape, blackberry and acai berry mixed in. It tastes dark and heavy like the purple hue of all of those fruits. At first sip it tastes a bit weird, but once you become acclimated to it, you just want to keep drinking it, even when the can is empty. At least that was my experience with it. It's been an off day and this beverage is helping me work my way through the haze.

Steaz Iced Green Tea Grapefruit Honey

Steaz Iced Green Tea Grapefruit Honey
Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I am here today to prove to you beyond the shadow of a doubt that grapefruit and honey are a perfect flavor combination. I know what you're thinking; grapefruit is too tart and it's what grandmothers eat for breakfast. While that may be true, it is still a delicious fruit when consumed in moderation. On the other side of the coin I have never heard a single person utter a complaint about honey. Everyone loves honey. Even bees understand that people love honey and don't put up too much of a fuss about humans collecting it for consumption. Mike tells me that someone in his family is beekeeper and that he can get me fresh honey comb. I've yet to see this come to fruition. Sorry, I've gone off on tangent there folks, but as you can see I am a passionate man, and this is a passionate flavor.

Now I don't claim to be a fancy man. I didn't attend a fancy learning school, I got my degree from a SUNY school, just like most of you. The fact of the matter if that you don't need to have a piece of paper from an Ivy League school to be able to proclaim with certainty that this is one delicious beverage. I'm guessing that you folks in the jury booth are like myself and have never drizzled honey on a grapefruit. Perhaps, just perhaps we have been wrong all of these years not to have done that. For you see the two pair perfectly, especially if the presentation vehicle is a lightly sweetened green tea. The results are smooth, delicious and refreshing. The tea, the grapefruit and the honey are all quite distinct in the flavor, but they also mingle together to create something new and wonderful.

Ladies and Gentleman, before you banish this beverage to the shelves of the Big Lots of the world I urge you to just give it a chance and I assure you that you will want it to appear in the coolers of every gas station this great country of ours has to offer.

Starbucks Teavana Mango Black Tea Lemonade

Starbucks Teavana Mango Black Tea Lemonade
I'll tell you what's good right now for the low price of reading what I have to write to you. This is good. What's good about it? Well, this tastes like all the ingredients and all the ingredients taste good. That's a pretty dumb way to describe how something tastes, right? Well, I say it because we get stuff all the time where flavors are disguised or hidden or masked by something else. This you can taste the tea, lemonade and mango all at the same time and respectfully. It's just the right amount of sweetness and sourness and everything. This is a great tea. Just in time for summertime to come to its peak heatness. This will cool many of you down rather successfully.

Bluewater Farms Farm Fresh Cranberry Sweet Tea

Bluewater Farms Farm Fresh Cranberry Sweet Tea
Normally when you get a flavored tea the ratio is along the lines of 85% tea 15% fruit flavor. That is unless it's some artificial garbage, then the ratio can be all over the place. This beverage is closer to an Arnold Palmer 50/50 split. It tastes like it's equal parts juice to tea. It's not what I'm used to, but it's pretty great. To be fair this is far from a sweet tea. In my world that is a very specific way of preparing iced tea. This is actually not abusively sweet. It's not overly tart, but it's not the cavity promoting wonderful swill that is sweet tea. Also, they actually use somewhat fancy tea in this as well. It's a blend of Orange Pekoe and Pekoe Cut Black Tea. That's higher up the tea chain than the normal every day black that is generally used in sweet tea. In summation it's not really sweet tea, and it's more juice than most teas, but neither of those are necessarily bad things and this is great.

Steaz Iced Green Tea Unsweetened Passionfruit

Steaz Iced Green Tea Unsweetened Passionfruit
As I sit here and drink this I find myself thinking “Well this is underwhelming.” The thing is, I am wrong, dead wrong. You see I forget that most humans don't have two growlers in their fridge at all times that are used to hold unsweetened iced tea that they make. I like fruity teas and passionfruit may be the fruitiest of all fruits, so this tastes a lot like tea I have made and drank in mass quantities. This is actually a wonderful tea, but since it's in my normal wheelhouse it seems almost boring to me. To anyone else this would more than likely be great. Well, unless they don't like unsweetened tea. If that's the case, what are they doing drinking this, when they know they won't like it? This is green tea with a nice hint of passionfruit in it. The tea runs the game while the fruit is just there for backup. It's simple, it's perfect, and now that my can is empty I find myself wanting about 5 more of them. So much for underwhelming.

REBBL Superherb Tonic Ginger Citrus

REBBL Superherb Tonic Ginger Citrus
Have you ever wondered what good health tastes like? Well ponder no more because REBBL has bottled the feeling and taste in this near perfect beverage. I dare anyone to take a sip of this and not feel instantly rejuvenated. Have you had a crappy day and now you just feel completely worn out and like cold diarrhea on a paper plate? Take a drink and welcome yourself back to the functioning world. Who needs cocaine to keep the party going when you have this? Well it might not be a party, but at least you'll feel great.

It's actually a rather simple beverage. It's green tea with a little bit of orange and lemon in the mix. On top of that there is some vanilla, ginseng, ginger, cinnamon, and anise. That's a whole mess of awesome things mixed together to make something greater than its parts. It's sweetened with stevia, but the flavor of that is completely lost amongst the other ingredients. I know what you're asking, “Thirsty Dudes all you seem to care about is ginger; how is it in this magical bottle?” Well I'll tell you, it's pretty subtle. It's there is flavor, but not in burn factor. Normally I would find that disappointing, but in here it would just take away from the rest of the greatness.

In summary this is a nice little citrus green tea with a kick. A kick that will boot you right in the butt and make you feel a little better about being alive.

Mate Bros Yerba Mate Original

Mate Bros Yerba Mate Original
Timmy Junior was just like his dad in most ways. They both liked baseball. They both liked cars. They both liked pinball. One thing they disagreed on was yerba mate. Timmy Senior loved it. He loved the bitterness and earthiness. Junior did not. It was too hard for him to get behind. It was such an "adult" drink because it was such a strong flavor. He just couldn't get behind it. Senior drank it constantly instead of coffee. Junior had to just drink coffee because he needed the caffeine but unfortunately couldn't handle all that yerba mate had to offer until one day.

One sunny, summer day, Senior brought him a can of Mate Bros Yerba Mate and told him they might be able to shake hands on this. Sugar was the second ingredient and cut into the bitterness enough that he loved it. It still had some of the earthiness of an original yerba mate but the bitterness was wildly diminished. It was like a sweet tea with yerba mate instead of black tea. Finally they would be able to cheers at family functions, split drinks and talk about their collective love for yerba mate.

Steaz Iced Green Tea Dragonfruit

Steaz Iced Green Tea Dragonfruit
I love it; a light, bitter green tea and a nice fruity taste throughout. There is nothing more to say but I wish I had more. I wish this came in a forty ounce bottle right next to the St. Ides. I want to drink this all day. I would like to dedicate an entire day to drinking this. There is a natural sweetness from the dragonfruit and the green tea is on point. Five. This gets a hard five. If we had half bottles, it would still get a hard five.

Positive Beverage Positive Energy

Positive Beverage Positive Energy
This stinks. This is disappointing and it stinks. I wanted this to be a bitter green tea, maybe a mildly sweetened but gnarly green tea. I could not be more wrong. This tastes like green tea flavored plastic. That's not what you came here for. You came here for details. Alright, you've got it.

Right off the bat, it smells bad. It smells like it tastes and it smells like burnt plastic. Initial taste is bitter but a vitamin bitter. Not a green tea bitter. What sweetener do they use in here that toxifying this thing? Oh would you look at that; sucralose, the bastard of all sweeteners.

Also, since we all know my opinions on this thing, let's talk about "natural energy." The energy in this might be real but the rest of it tastes like a chemical mess.

Oh, and also the "cross out" above "Gluten Free" makes it seem like it's not gluten free.

Chai Elixir Fuzion Oolong Tea with Natural Flavors

Chai Elixir Fuzion Oolong Tea with Natural Flavors
Greg liked tea but he needed something more. He needed that sugar on his tongue. He needed some fizz but didn't like the syrupy soda pop taste. One day when walking through the city he found what he thought to be the perfect drink. It was a sweetened, carbonated tea. Not only was it tea but it was oolong tea so it was fancier to him. He promptly paid for it and went to the park to watch the dogs chase the birds.

He took one sip and instead of being thrilled and elated, he kind of sat silently on the bench. He had been let down again. This tea was carbonated and sweetened but it was just too much. It was so sweet that it took most of the tea flavor away. The entire time he drank it, he just wanted an unsweetened tea like he was used to more and more. It had a tea aftertaste but just tasted like a strangely carbonated cola. Almost like a less bubblegum champagne cola.

He dumped half of the bottle down the drain pet some dog's heads on the way out of the park and went home to his nagging girlfriend and cruddy cat. It was not Greg's finest day.

TK Hibiscus Hibiscus Tea Yellow Ginger

TK Hibiscus Hibiscus Tea Yellow Ginger
The name and label on this bottle make it look like a supermarket's store brand. TK totally sounds like it could be a grocery store chain down in Florida, and why wouldn't a grocer in the Sunshine State have their own line of hibiscus teas? I really do like the simple clean look of the label, but I've been to too many grocery stores around the world and it has “that” look to it. I'll tell you what though; if this were a store brand I would be jealous that they didn't have any stores in or around Buffalo.

I don't think I've ever come across a hibiscus tea that I didn't love, and when you throw ginger into the mix, I don't know if there was any chance of this being bad. This is simply hibiscus flowers brewed in water with a little ginger added and then it's all (very) lightly sweetened with agave. There is no burn from the ginger, but the flavor is still very prevalent. Overall this just tastes natural with nothing hiding. All of the flavors are right out front where they should be, standing naked in front of your taste buds. It is delicious and it is refreshing.

Wendy's FruiTea Chillers Orange Mango

Wendy's FruiTea Chillers Orange Mango
Oh what a treat. Look, hate fast food all you want. I didn't eat Wendy's for years due to a food poisoning issue which made me hallucinate. Bad sour cream man, don't mess with that at all. Old dairy? Leave it alone. You've got things to do and hopefully those things don't involve you getting the sweats and sleeping the rest of the day away.

They have stepped up their game, though and this is a fantastic drink. After drinking the blueberry pineapple, I thought it fair to try the orange mango. Man. What a tropical voyage this guy is. Decent orange and good mango put together in one small drink. They spruced it up with a lemon and it was a wonderful addition.

Look, I know it sounds like I'm really hamming it up for Wendy's but dude; seriously, this is a legitimately good drink you should try before they pull it. Be mad they took it away. Don't be mad you didn't get a chance to try it. Starting now, I told you so.

TK Hibiscus Hibiscus Tea Classic Simple

TK Hibiscus Hibiscus Tea Classic Simple
Today I sighed before I walked into work. It's been a whirlwind of a place; lots of work and lots of switching projects. Not a lot of yelling which is good but at the end of the day, I really feel like I've got to wipe the sweat from my brow. I needed something to calm down with and lo and behold, there was a hibiscus tea in the fridge for me to enjoy.

This tea is better than the other one by a long shot. It's a little sweeter and has a real prominent hibiscus taste. Go figure, right? I think that this is a great base and don't really know how they could improve it. It's a lightly sweetened hibiscus tea. What a marvelous invention. They nailed it. Three friggin' ingredients. Three. One and a two and a one, two three. Water, hibiscus and agave. Done. Nailed it.

Good Earth White Tea Mango Me Crazy

Good Earth White Tea Mango Me Crazy
Dear Good Earth, it is summertime. It's hot out and I have no reason to drink hot tea. I don't drink many hot beverages, even in the dead of winter, but especially not now. I hope that you are okay with the fact that I brewed a big pot of this tea, with several bags and then put it in the fridge to cool down so I could make my own iced tea. Actually I don't really care if you're bummed because it was delicious tea. Truth be told it's what I've been doing with most of your products and I have enjoyed each and every one of them in its cold form.

If white teas were more popular I could see myself getting over it really quick (I'm a green tea man myself), but when I have them every once in a while their subtleties are nice. This has a strong white tea base to it, and then an even stronger fruity overtone. Yes there is mango in there, but it's the mangosteen that really stands out. Everything is actually in a really nice ratio and the flavors kind of come in waves. I'm sure this would be great hot, but until the snow returns I'll be drinking it in its opposite form.

Lipton Sparkling Iced Tea Peach

Lipton Sparkling Iced Tea Peach
John learned a lot of worthless stuff in high school. He learned how to sew a plush bear, historical event that won't help anyone outside of a bar league quiz night and what happens when you put vinegar and baking soda together. He always enjoyed science but mixing household events just wasn't enough. He needed something else.

He went home, put on his dad's safety goggles, you know, for safety, and started mixing. He went in the pantry grabbed iced tea mix and a whole peach. He went into the liquor cabinet using the key that he has seen his dad blatantly hide beneath the globe in the living room dozens of times and grabbed seltzer water; something that didn't need to be in the liquor cabinet in the first place and put everything on the table.

He made a glass of iced tea, regular stuff, and hand squeezed a peach in to it and then carefully and delicately poured some seltzer into it. Once combined he took one sip, for science and discovered something very sad. All he had done was recreate Lipton Sparkling Peach Iced Tea. Not a total loss. He did had a nice glass of tea to drink but he also had quite a mess to clean up. Also, he had some 'splainin' to do because when his daddy got home he noticed that some of the seltzer was gone.

O.N.E. Coconut Water with Tea Tropical Colada

O.N.E. Coconut Water with Tea Tropical Colada
I believe there is a dark magic at work in my life. Over the past couple of weeks there have been a handful of times where I have woken up feeling like complete garbage. I feel like I'm hung over, even though I haven't had a drop of alcohol. The only conclusion that I can reach is that someone is using the dark arts to pass their hangover onto me. They are out partying all night, getting trashed, and then waking up bright and early all chipper while I don't want to get out of bed to do a thing. I must find this person and break their spell so I can go back to living my productive life.

If I remember correctly dehydration is one of the big causes of a hangover. I drink plenty of water all day, so that shouldn't be an issue, but just in case it is I'm drinking this coconut water to help replace all of the precious fluids in my body. This is an interesting variety of this type of beverage. Mixing pineapple in with coconuts is nothing new, but adding tea into the mix is. I don't really understand if it has any real benefits other than taste, but I do enjoy it. The added passion fruit juice doesn't hurt either. Actually the whole thing is a bit sweet after being used to unsweetened coconut water. It seems like the sweetness from the juices would be enough, but they added sugar anyway. I could use a tad more tea flavor in here, especially since the fruit flavors are so strong. It just gets lost a bit. I appreciate where they are going with this though. Hopefully a version with no added sugar will come out and I will totally be on board.

If a lemonade and tea is an Arnold Palmer, and any blue juice and tea is my patented Laura Palmer, what would one call coconut water and tea? The only other Palmer I can think of at the moment is Amanda Palmer, but that doesn't seem to fit. Oh wait, it's a Leiland Palmer. His hair went white, coconuts are white. Send out my proclamation. While you're at it bring me the head of whoever is giving me their hangovers.

Tazo Sweet Cinnamon Spice

Tazo Sweet Cinnamon Spice
I might have broken the law. If I drink something that's listed to be a hot tea and I drink it iced, it's kind of up to me. If I buy a hamburger and bring it home and put peanut butter and jelly on top and gummy bears on the bottom, I can do that. If I buy a bag of chips and put M&M's in there, I can do that.

This intrigued me because it had oh so many things to enjoy; sarsaparilla, anise, cinnamon and much more. It was good. It was cool and pretty refreshing. It was a bit "rooty" due to, and I'm going to assume, the chicory root. I mention that more as a feature, not a complaint. If I complained about it, it would be something to the likes of, "Ugh, this drink tasted like someone carved it out of a tree." or something way too much since we clearly suck at writing reviews. It's not an overwhelming drink. I know people are pretty black or white on anise but this contains less than you would think, regardless of the gigantic star anise on the box. More like a cinnamon red tea.

This was good, though. I've got nineteen bags left that I don't anticipate gathering dust like some of the other ones I've got up there. It's just different enough that maybe for every five bags of black tea I make, I'll swap in this or the chai black. You've got to keep things fresh, you know? Like when you wear the same socks for four days in a row. Change them out. They're stretched out and need to get back to where they belong. Yeah. It's just like that.

Chai Elixir Essence White Tea with Natural Flavors

Chai Elixir Essence White Tea with Natural Flavors
PREVIOUSLY ON THIRSTY DUDES: (Insert montage of how I thought the green tea Chai Elixir. It's highly dramatized and leaves you on a cliffhanger).

Now that we're all brought up to speed I wonder what excitement this week will bring us. Oh this time around it is white tea with a little bit of white peach nectar thrown into the mix like some quasi interesting secondary character. I have to say that yet again Chai Elixir has delivered something interesting. The chai isn't as strong in this variety, but I'm okay with that. It's mostly white tea with hints of peach around the edges. There's some extra spices in there, but they are more subtle notes than a full on flavor. I don't think a higher level of chai would really have worked well with the peach so a wise choice was made.

I must warn people that these drinks are not your everyday soda. They are unique and are made for sipping and pondering, not just mindlessly gulping them down. So go in with an open mind and you can go on an interesting little trip. Speaking of trips I hear they are going to Asia next week to work with oolong tea.

TK Hibiscus Hibiscus Tea Green Jasmine

TK Hibiscus Hibiscus Tea Green Jasmine
On a recent, and terrible, trip to Richmond, Virginia I was pleased as punch to find this little number hiding in a cooler. Without question I bought it and anxiously awaited the nearly ten hour trip home which would allow me to drink it. Obviously I forgot and was left with two bags of snacks and drinks that were virtually untouched.

Green jasmine?! Dude. Please. You have an open invitation to come with Jay and myself to PF Changs where we kill glass after glass of the green jasmine tea. Paired with hibiscus should be a match made in heaven but is it? That's my little click bait for you. Answer? Scroll down to find out. There's another.

No. It's good but it tastes a little like a hibiscus tea that someone left the bag in too long. It's the tiniest bit sweet which actually helps but at the end of it, it comes off a bit flat. There's a tiny bit of green jasmine tea but the hibiscus tea is really strong, almost overwhelming. All-in-all this kind of falls flat. It's really heavy like my heart while I have to write this honest review about a tea I really wanted to love but have to give a mediocre grade to. I could never be a teacher. Some kids show promise but end up disappointing you and you have to fail them. I'm not going as far as to fail this tea but saying that the name of a baby chicken is a pigeon is just wrong and they should know better.

Good Earth Green Tea Pomegranate Burst

Good Earth Green Tea Pomegranate Burst
They are on to something here. I wish I was a scientist. Well, I wish I was a scientist a lot actually but now I can actually think of a situation where I would use my skills. I wish I was a scientist so that I could pull out my cool pocket microscope and look at what's going on in this bag of tea. There's got to be some sort of concentrate of juice in there and I want to see the flavor crystals because let's face it, all flavor comes in crystals. Since 1996 when Ice Breakers gum came out and their flavor was in crystals, all flavor has been contained within the confides of crystals.

This is titled "Pomegranate Burst" but that might have gotten lost in translation because this tastes like cherries. Also, since we, nay, I, are talking about how this tasted, this is like a 70% juice and 30% tea. I don't know what you want in something that comes in a tea bag. It's listed as a green tea but that is simply the carrier for the juice.

Whether it's cherry or pomegranate, it's good. Whether it's tea or juice, it's good. Whether you ate the wrapper or not with your Ice Breakers gum, it was good. Ice Breakers gum came out almost two decades ago and I'm recalling it like it was yesterday. That's very strange. I don't know if I like it or not. I like this tea, a lot. I don't know if I like how I aged myself back there.
