H2PRO Bone and Joint Health Lemonade

H2PRO Bone and Joint Health Lemonade
This could not have shown up in my life at a better time. I've had tennis elbow for going on two months now, and somehow in the past two weeks I have messed up both my knees. I don't know what I'm doing to myself, but I'm falling apart. Now I have H2Pro to help me through it. I don't know if my elbow is finally healing, and my knee brace is working, but after a couple of days of drinking this I see to be doing a bit better. In other good news this actually tastes pretty good. It's a powder mix, but it has a strong lemon flavor and that same lemon helps fight off the stevia flavor, while still letting it sweeten it up a bit. I actually enjoy sipping this and I'm not chugging the whole thing just to get it over with. It's simple and nice tasting, while being functional. I don't know what the next trauma to befall my body will be, but hopefully this will help fix me up before whatever it is happens.

Mobius Breakfast Drink Mix Dark Chocolate

Mobius Breakfast Drink Mix Dark Chocolate
Whenever meal replacements are advertised, why is it that breakfast is always the meal that is being replaced? Are people really that busy in the morning that they can't whip something up quick, or at a minimum spend the two minutes eating a bowl of cereal? I'm kind of a mess if I don't have my oats and honey cereal in the morning, but I think that has more to do with routine than actual eating. To me breakfast is the easy meal. If I had to choose a meal that I would need a quick replacement for it would be lunch. I'm always busy with work or some project in the middle of the day and I always go for a quick option.

So yeah, Mobius is supposed to be for breakfast, but I broke the rules and had it for lunch. Now I knew there was coconut milk in this, but what I didn't know was that the coconut flavor was just about as strong as the chocolate flavor. I take that back the coconut flavor is the strongest flavor in here and it tastes like toasted coconut, which I kind of hate, so instantly this drink is not for me. It tastes like someone liquefied toasted coconut and then added cocoa powder to it, which I guess is what this is if you take out all of the other vitamins and nutrients, which there is a lot of. This has 20g of protein, it's dense in micronutrients, it had medium chain triglycerides as well as nootropics and 100mg of caffeine. I have no idea what most of that means, but I guess it means it has everything you need for a nutritious breakfast (lunch). It uses a blend of sugar and stevia to cut down on calories, and I will say that it is the way to go if you're looking for a healthier drink that doesn't taste completely diet. I also just saw that this has gelatin in it, so I consumed that when I normally don't. Thanks for that.

If you really like coconut and don't' like preparing breakfast drink this. If you're like me and dislike toasted coconut give the rest of the packets you have to a friend like Mike, who will enjoy it more.

Celsius Sparkling Orange

Celsius Sparkling Orange
Celsius sent us over a couple of flavors that we have already reviewed. I'm not sure if they are reformulated, or if it's just new packaging, but since it's been about five years since I reviewed the other one, I thought I'd give it another go.

When so much time has passed memories can get a bit hazy. I had a general idea of how this tasted, and reading my old review filled in some gaps. From what I said and what I remember I'm pretty sure they have tweaked the recipe a little. This has a cleaner orange taste and it's not so much an orange soda flavor. It certainly still tastes diet, but I don't mind it as much as I remembered. It's a functional beverage meant to help you burn calories, so of course it's not going to be loaded with real sugar. They seemed to find a way to soften the diet taste a bit, or else I'm just more used to it than I was back then. Either way if you are the sort of person that is drinking Celsius, then you probably have a good idea of what you're getting yourself into.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
A couple of friends and I were planning on riding to Niagara Falls on our bikes today. It was close to, if not over, 90 degrees out but we figured we'd be riding next to the river the whole time, so it should be cooler. It was, but it was still pretty hot. Before we left I downed this can of Celsius. I definitely enjoy their sparkling drinks over their teas. They both taste so overly diet (they are weight loss drinks what so I don't expect otherwise) but the bubbles mask it a bit. This tasted like a really cheap diet orange soda that you would find at Aldi or some such discount grocery store. It wasn't the greatest, but for what it is and what it does I can't really expect a gem. I definitely felt an energy burst from it, and I will assume it helped burn calories. So I downed the can pretty fast, let out a humungous burp and hit the pedals.

We made it about halfway through Wheatfield when we decided to stop at a gas station and refill our water bottles. We were sitting outside sipping on some crisp cold water when suddenly my front tire let out all its air. It was loud and it was fast. The bike was laying on the ground for about ten minutes without being touched for ten minutes before it happened. I blame the sun. I really think it got to hot and burst. Stupid sun, you're just fighting dirty because I put on SPF 85 sunscreen!

Aspire Fire Cherry Berry

Aspire Fire Cherry Berry
Today on “Great Moments When Your Friends Thought They Were Hysterical” we will explore the time in the late 90's during a moment of silence, on a long drive when someone felt the need to proclaim, “Ford Aspire, I bet it aspires to be a better car.” For the record the silence was apparently only uncomfortable for this would be comedian. The silence that followed the joke was uncomfortable for everyone.

That dumb joke would never apply to this beverage, because in the world of sports drinks where else is there to go? This is delicious, it is functional, and it is low in calories without tasting like diet death. This has the most accurate cherry flavor that I have ever come across outside of straight cherry juice. It doesn't taste like syrup, medicine or candy. It tastes like cherry juice with a few assorted berries thrown in for good measure.

If you've gone through life thinking that Gatorade was the pinnacle of sports drinks, and why bother with other brands, then you are in for a wild ride. This is the same basic concept as those beverages, but presented in a natural healthier way. It's chock full of electrolytes as well as antioxidants, B vitamins and minerals. Suck on that status quo of sports drinks.

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Tasty

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Tasty
Here we have the last of the Kill Cliff recovery drinks that we were sent. The can only states that the name of the flavor is “Tasty,” but I can assure you that it is orange (blood orange according to the website), and while this is completely drinkable, it is my least favorite of the four flavors. It tastes like a diet orange soda with a little something extra in it. It just happens that that is nowhere close to my favorite flavor. I would choose this over any orange soda I've ever tasted before, especially since this has functional properties for when I work out. I don't really get any blood orange out of this, but it's also not painfully diet (even though it's sweetened with sucralose). I'll take that tradeoff.

Purps Hydro

Purps Hydro
This is one strange beverage. That doesn't mean that it's bad by any means, it just means that it's strange. It is a healthy hydration drink. Think of it as an all-natural concoction that combines coconut water and something like Gatorade. There are other products on the market that do the same thing, so this isn't anything new in that regard, but there is something different about it. The thing that is special about Purps is their Purple Life Formula, which is six different purple superfruits mixed together (mangosteen, maqui berry, aรƒยงaรƒยญ berry, blueberry, grape and blackberry). Using so many purple fruits isn't even the weird part. The thing that is strange about this is that it is so chock full of fruits, yet it has a very distinctive vegetable taste, even though black carrots are the only vegetable listed in the ingredients. It tastes way more like sweetened vegetable juice mixed with coconut water than it does fruit juice. The fruit is there, but the vegetables have taken over the aftertaste. I like it, but it's still strange. I wonder what is causing that flavor. It also tastes more like a juice drink than coconut water, which gets no complaints from me either. So much purple in one little bottle with so much flavor. I would definitely choose this over a Gatorade or Powerade any day. Those chumps don't stand a chance in the hydration game.

This...this tastes weird. I don't know what it is. It's definitely full of healthy ingredients because something that was "bad" for you would taste different. Not better. Just different. This drink tastes a lot like acai which is a primary ingredient. It's a little bitter which could be from the acai or the Stevia. I'm drinking it over and over and I can't tell whether or not I like it. It didn't mix well so I'm getting chunks of mix every once in a while. I'm not counting that against them because I might have mixed it wrong. I'm pretty sure I put mix and water together correctly. At my age, I'm pretty sure that I know how to do that.

I don't know. It's fruity but you get a little bit of a "Flintstone vitamin." You can take that how you want it. I'm still looking forward to the other stuff that they sent us. It should also be known that they have some of the best packaging we've received. Credit where credit's due.

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Free Fall Lemon Lime

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Free Fall Lemon Lime
Can we pretend for a minute that the US Army includes cans of lemon-lime Kill Cliff in the rations of all soldiers in active duty? A can of this would fit in an MRE, right? You get your pasta, your crackers, and a can of recovery drink. Let's be honest those soldiers need a beverage of this type way more than most civilians do. I mean how many essential vitamins and minerals are those fighting folks going to really get from preservative laden meals? Not much by my calculations. I think this actually be a reality because why else would this can be camouflaged? Sure it's not the right colored camo for the current war(s) we're in, but I'm sure we'll get back to these colors in no time at all.

I do hope the soldiers like diet lemon lime soda, because that is what this tastes like. Okay, maybe that's not giving it it's proper due. This tastes like the best diet lemon lime soda I've ever tasted. Sure, that's not really saying much, but it's an important distinction. It has a decent lemon lime flavor which is stronger and more flavorful than say a Sprite or 7Up. Also the use of erythritol and stevia as sweeteners destroys all of that sucralose filled garbage on the market. This is definitely not a flavor that I would choose out of a batch, but if I were in enemy territory and this was handed to me with my meal I would be one excited soldier.

Starbucks Doubleshot Coffee and Protein

Starbucks Doubleshot Coffee and Protein
There's nothing better than a hot coffee and a nice, juicy steak, huh, Bob? This is how I begin and close out every day. A nice porterhouse and a rich, tall glass of coffee. No, Bob. I mean it. Every day. It's how I stay a healthy, vibrant three-hundred pounds. It's more for the ladies to love, if you know what I mean. You don't know what I mean? Well, Bob, when a man and a woman...oh...oh...you do get it. Alright.

What do you have there? Oh, a Starbucks drink. How cute. Wait, what's in it. Protein and coffee. Hmm. You might be on to something. Can I have that can? I'll gladly pay you for it. Thanks.

This isn't too bad. It's got a smooth coffee taste that's a little like the original Frappuccino. You can get a little of the sweet and bitterness from the erythritol but that's really nominal. You don't really get protein, which is nice because sometimes protein drinks can be really gritty.

You might be on to something, Bob. Bob, I spend a hundred dollars a day on fine coffee and sixteen ounce steaks. I can now spend $5. You just saved me almost $35,000 a year. You know what; you just earned yourself a sixty-five cent raise. Congratulations. Enjoy your raise.

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Blackberry Lemonade

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Blackberry Lemonade
I've joked about the name, but I really have no idea what the phrase “Kill Cliff” is all about. I'm 99% certain that it's not about killing Cliff Clavin, but who knows; it's a strange world out there. Maybe the former Navy Seal who created the project really hated the movie Cliffhanger. Maybe he just thinks that cliffhangers are lazy story telling. I certainly have no idea. What I do know is that I feel like I enjoy the way this beverage tastes way more than I should.

Erythritol and Stevia may be the least offensive of the zero calorie sweeteners, but they still normally aren't all that great. In here it doesn't bother me at all and it complements the other flavors. This has a strong blackberry taste that actually tastes like berries. There is definitely some lemonade floating in there as well, so I have no complaints as to how it is names/branded. I mean I actually really enjoy this, to the extent that if it wasn't functional I could see myself drinking it on the regular for enjoyment. As it stands I have a case of it that I will be drinking when I work out. There's nothing artificial in here and it helps in muscle recovery. This is by far the best tasting beverage of this functionality that I have ever tried.

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Pomegranate Punch

Kill Cliff Recovery Drink Pomegranate Punch
Why do they hate him so much? Sure he's lazy. Sure he spends all of his time in a bar when he should be working. Why though, why do they want to kill Cliff Clavin? Did he steal important mail from them? We're talking about an entire product line based on the hatred of a fictional character from a television show from the 80s. Maybe the actor that played Cliff had an affair with the mother of whoever named this beverage and broke up his happy family. The world is a strange place when a television actor can ruin your life and you can spend your whole life devising a way to destroy him.

While I do not agree with the motives, I can't argue with the flavor. This is a carbonated pomegranate beverage that is sweetened with erythritol to keep the calories down. There's also a bunch of other functional ingredients in there as well to help you recover after a workout. A little trick they did was to include some ginger extract, which seems to be combating the dietness of the erythritol and it seems to be winning. The diet taste is not strong in here, and every drink is made better with a hint of ginger.

Kill Cliff was nice enough to send us a case of each flavor and Mike's ladyfriend and I are beyond pleased. You can catch us looking like idiots at a gym that is probably nowhere near you. Oh yeah, if you think this is all based on Cliff Clavin, you my friend are kind of an idiot.

Celsius Flo-Fusion Berry

Celsius Flo-Fusion Berry
In the future when the whole world is filled with fat slobs, the skinny man, with all of their nimble ways, will be king. Since the worlds food supply will be nothing but snack foods and items of the deep fried variety staying slim will be a challenge. In fact many will result to illegal methods to keep their figure. The way these are packaged makes me think they are some sort of futuristic street drug. People meet up on shady street corners in the dead of night and deals are made for the sweet (actually kind of weirdly bitter) powder that will give them an edge over the overweight set.

These actually taste completely artificial like I would imagine a black market futuristic weight loss drug would. With both sucralose and erythritol in the mix making up what I can only assume is a majority of the powder the natural wild berry flavor never stood a chance. This one is much better than the orange version, but it still leaves something to be desired, mainly not an overwhelming taste of fake sugar.

Now how much do you think these things will sell for when the fatpocolypse hits? Should I stock up now?

Aquafina Flavorsplash Sparkling Color Me Kiwi

Aquafina Flavorsplash Sparkling Color Me Kiwi
Why do these beverages exist? Does anyone actually enjoy them, or have people tricked themselves into thinking that it is something that they enjoy? It was only recently that I finally came around to seltzer water, but I can now say that I truly enjoy it, well some flavors. Armed with that knowledge it's a safe bet that never in a million years would I choose a carbonated beverage sweetened with sucralose over one with no sweetener whatsoever. Actually that same could probably said about any type of beverage. The sucralose taste is so strong that it nearly blocks out the fake kiwi flavor, which isn't all that great anyway. Something went very wrong in the development of this beverage and it starts with the letter S and ends in “lose.”

Celsius Flo-Fusion Orange

Celsius Flo-Fusion Orange
Celsius beverages have never been known as a tasty bunch of drinks to me. The thing is that they were functional beverages that had a very specific purpose, so I tended to be a bit forgiving on the flavor side of the review. It is extremely hard to turn a blind eye to the taste of what is created when you mix this packet into water. Nothing about it, including the orange flavor tastes natural. It's as if someone powdered toxic waste and tricked me into thinking that it would help with exercising.

If this were a normal beverage I would never have made it past a sip or two, but as I said it's functional and helps burn more calories in a workout as well as give you a little energy boost for said workout. I'm forcing myself to down the whole glass before I head to the gym. It's the most diet tasting orange beverage I have ever tasted, and it really better work, because you have to suffer through it.

Monster Muscle Vanilla

Monster Muscle Vanilla
There's nothing like a big can of milk to make you want to go and work out. There may be a lot of other ingredients in here, but flavor/consistency wise what it boils down to is that is tastes like you're drinking vanilla milk. Yes, I am aware that the protein in these shakes usually comes from whey, but I also normally drink them after going to the gym, not before, which is how this beverage was intended to be enjoyed. The main ingredient in here is skim milk, and that really shows through. It's probably mostly psychological, but it makes me feel logy, even with the taurine and other energy producing ingredients present.

Is there anyone on this planet who before heading out for a run heads to the fridge and pours themselves a nice tall glass of milk? The thought of it just sitting in your stomach makes me think about the inevitable amount of vomit that would spew forth within the first ¼ mile.

I appreciate what they are going for with this, and I enjoyed the chocolate version, but as a pre-workout drink this simply does not work for me. Afterwards I could see, but surely not before.

H2PRO Immune Health Acai Berry

H2PRO Immune Health Acai Berry
Until 5-6 years ago I don't think I had ever heard the word probiotic before. Then some yogurts started advertising it, saying they were the good type of bacteria, and that they helped with digestion and stomach issues. As someone who has suffered through stomach pain for a big portion of my life, I jumped right on that train. Do you know where that train took me? Nowheresville. Eating those yogurts that I generally thought were disgusting, did nothing to ease my pain. I guess probiotics can't do anything when the source of your pain is stress. I later discovered that if I cut out most of the corn syrup from my diet I wasn't writhing in pain every night. I don't know how that math adds up, but the pain is gone so I'm not complaining. The point in all of this is that only for the briefest moment of my life have I paid attention to anything because it was probiotic.

A few days ago some of these packets arrived at my door for review. The literature that was included claims that not only are probiotics good for digestion, but they also help with your immune system and promote healthy metabolism, by helping to absorb more nutrients. When we started Thirsty Dudes, Mike and I both swore the Hippocratic Oath of beverage reviewers to give all brings affair and impartial review (unless they contain bananas or vinegar), and to always listen to scientists because they are our betters and would never lie to us in a million, bazillion years. Keeping that in mind a doctor, who is one form of a scientist, created this and tells me it's good for me, and I am contractually obligated to believe him. It also helps that our reviews have very little to do with functionality and almost all to do with flavor.

When I opened up this packet I was greeted to a very pleasant smell. It was like my kitchen had been transformed into a smoothie shop. It's a very specific smell that is like berry ice cream, and it's delicious. Looking at the ingredients list I am informed that this is 95% stevia. That seems like a whole lot of stevia, especially since the berry flavor is so prevalent and the diet taste is so minimal. I knew there was zero sugar in here, but from the last I thought it was just berries with no added sweetener. That is how good of a job they did masking the stevia. It's a pleasant drink that I can only believe is very good for you as the scientist who created it has a higher ranking that myself, and it is illegal for me to question him. I will say that this seems like it would be a good additive for a smoothie, but that's probably just because all I can think about is getting a smoothie now, but I just ate and I don't want to leave the house. So, you know, someone bring me one.

Tumeric The Elixer of Life Turmeric Golden Milk

Tumeric The Elixer of Life Turmeric Golden Milk
Remember in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade when the Nazi lets the woman choose the grail and she chooses poorly and when he drinks it he instantly ages, rots, and turns to dust? That was pretty sweet wasn't it? I mean not as sweet as when they open the Ark of the Covenant, but still really sweet. What they didn't show in the movie was that if Indy had filled the proper wooden grail up with the water it would have turned into turmeric golden milk aka the elixir of life. That is actually the backstory of this company. The movie is actually a documentary that was shot in real time. What they didn't catch on film was that the grail was eventually stolen by an unknown person. What is known is that this company got their hands on it and now everyone has the key to eternal life in the form of hemp milk.

Eternal life has a nice thickness to it. It also tastes like it has a very close familial relationship with chai latte. It's not like a brother or sister, but more of the cool cousin that lives out of state and who only makes it home one a year for Xmas or Thanksgiving. At that time they marvel the rest of the family with their tales of an exotic bohemian life. You would think that they were being a jerk, but that have such charisma that everyone loves them. That's exactly what this drink is. The combination of hemp milk, coconut cream, honey, turmeric, ginger, cardamom, chia, sea salt, vanilla bean, and cassia leaves you with an overall sense of well being. Not only that, but it taste delicious. That is hard to achieve, but I guess the Holy Grail helps.

Coco Libre Protein Coconut Water Chocolate

Coco Libre Protein Coconut Water Chocolate
Take everything you know about protein drinks and throw it right out the window. Now just concentrate on what you know about chocolate milk, and make it a little creamier. That's what you have right here. The protein that is added to normal drinks of this variety, generally make them thicker and a lot of the time gritty. It's adding dairy onto dairy and the results can be a bit much. With this product the base is the thinner coconut water, so adding the milk protein gives puts it in the ballpark of regular milk, but creamier as I said. The Dutch cocoa powder that they add is great. If this were called a chocolate milk I might claim it to be the best I've ever tasted. Since it's not I will say that it is quite a tasty protein drink that goes down nice and smooth.

BodyArmor Super Drink Tropical Citrus

BodyArmor Super Drink Tropical Citrus
In my sick position, I think I need to sit back and evaluate the amount of citrus I have coming in and going out of my system. I've been really good this winter and now that it's coming to a close, I think that in the change of seasons, I seem to have contracted a bit of a cold. What better way to combat it than with a barrage of EmergenC, honey, green tea and other stuff. I think that this is doing a pretty good job. It's citric and tastes primarily of pineapple. It got a picture of a coconut, grapes, oranges and pineapple on the front although none of them are credited on the back of the bottle. That's strange. I'll keep that in the back of my mind for another time.

This is good, though. I enjoy the taste of it and I think that it might have a base of coconut water that is delightfully covered up by said taste. It's certainly citric but nothing specific. That rhymes. Hey Danny Brown, use that on your next record. "Citric" and "specific." Do with it what you want. Just come out with another record. I'm so anxious.

H10O Vitamin Infused Water Citrus Sport

H10O Vitamin Infused Water Citrus Sport
H10O Water. "Loads of vitamins. Tiny bit of calories. Gallons of diet taste." Not the best tagline, I know. It tells more truth than "No Sugar. No Carbs." Tons of things fit under that criteria. At least with mine you know what you're getting into. Also, I and I alone are splitting hairs, "citrus sport" sounds like the color of a mid-tier sports car. The Hyundai Veloster should change it's color "Vitamin C" and exchange it with "Citrus Sport." I would think the same thing. I would drive the heck out of it either way, but it seems like it's more fitting for an automobile than water.

To the drink itself, it's honestly not that bad. It's diety as all getup but it's not undrinkable. It comes in bursts. In the beginning you get a nice, soft sense of citrus. I don't know any fruit that tastes like this but if it was a real fruit, I think that I would eat it. Once the fruit flavor has run its course, that's when you take a sharp left into Dietburg USA. We'll take a trip there but at the end of a day like today, I would much rather take a trip to Taco Town. It's a diet "water" drink. It could be worse. I think that it's on part if not slightly worse than their sparkling equivalent.
