Rajbhog Sweet Rose Lassi

Rajbhog Sweet Rose Lassi
Travel back in time, back to the romantic era. The year is 1785 and you, a lonely soap maker meet a woman you love. You spend day in and day out producing sweet smelling soaps so that others may clean their bodies. Everyone loves your soaps and you do fairly well. People know you for who you are and respect what you do.

So along comes this woman who you begin courting in hopes that one day she will become your wife. She, of course, gets complimentary soap whenever she desires. She never grows tired of the scent and the way that it makes her skin feel. The soothing scents of lavender, roses, and other native flowers fill the air as she bathes herself once a month (not a scumbag thing. They took fewer showers since it was a chore to get hot water and they typically used "dry" shampoo to wash their hair. Leave them alone. They're all dead. I don't know why I mentioned it. Ignore that part. It's in type. I cannot be erased. It is too late.) She, if anything desires more scent. "More!" she beckons from the small one bedroom house as you trot off to work.

One day you go into work, and amongst all the animal fat and flowers and powders, and such, you think that you might try something new. You take the soap and melt it down and pour it into a glass. You frighteningly take a sip and it's pretty terrible, but you don't give up. No. You are not a quitter. You put some sugar in it and use less powder and more milk from the local dairy. After a couple secretive weeks of experimentation you've got it the perfect mix of creamy, sweet, floral drink that you desired.

The next day at the market, you fill some small bottles with this creamy mixture and have people try it. They do not like it. They say to you, "Good sir, we love your soaps for our bodies, but, alas, we do not love your soap for our gullets. I'm sorry." As you bow your head down in shame, your wife walks up to you with a smile on her face. She is so happy to see you. After all, you've spent so much time at the shop experimenting that your wife has nearly gone unnoticed. In hopes that she can cheer you up, as she always does, you give her a taste of your newest creation. She takes a dainty sip and a look comes across her face like no other you've seen before. She gives you a solid, definitive look of disappointment and then walks away. You don't talk to her for weeks until you finally agree that you will no longer produce the drink. You continue to bow your head in shame as yet another venture has gone up in smoke.

Basically, this drink tastes like old people soap.

AGA Coctail

AGA Coctail
There are bananas on the front of this bottle. I don't like bananas. After calming down and not being a wuss and reading the ingredients, bananas make up only 1% of this juice. I felt a sigh of relieve as I took a sip. No banana! Lots of other stuff, though. It was true nectar, thick, smooth and gritty. It's strange to feel little grits and bits of fruit in there but that's how you know it's real. Once again, according to the percentage makeup of the fruit contents, there is 25% guava, 5% strawberry, and 1 sole percent of banana. The flavor was good and went in between the guava and strawberry, a nice 50/50 blend.

I liked it. A lot of times, single fruit nectar gets too fruity and boring after a while. Who needs ~12oz of just guava? Mix it up, and then cut it in half so you don't have a fruit overload. This little bottle is only 8.5oz and 65 calories so you can drink the whole thing and still feel good about yourself.

Lipton PureLeaf Green Tea with Honey

Lipton PureLeaf Green Tea with Honey
You know...sometimes Lipton does alright by me. Sure, they make Brisk, but someone has to pay the bills, you know? Kids don't want real flavor. They don't know real tea from a hole in the wall. Lipton went ahead and said "Screw the kids, we're making real tea. My dental insurance simply can't cover another dentalotomy" (quote pending) and made the good stuff, and put it in a glass bottle. That means adult. Kids can't handle glass because they're stupid and have slippery hands due to unformed fingers and french fry grease. Adults have all the dexterity that one would need and the taste buds to appreciate time spent on a good drink.

This is good tea. It's got a solid bitterness and when you don't know how far it's going to go, honey jumps in to save the day with it's nice, natural, sweet taste. Yes, there is citric acid in it and you can taste that it has a titch of "lemony" to it, but beggars can't be choosers. I like this and it's a solid alternative to the Lipton sweetened (blue ring) tea. You've got natural sugar, which allows you to appreciate actual flavor. Something those little punks don't know anything about.

Firstly this made my girlfriend gag and nearly throw up. Not a good start. Me personally, I didn't gag but from scent to taste it was not good. It has a familiar but unidentifiable taste. It was like a salty and sweet, spiced juice. I wish that I could be more descriptive and if anyone else can point me in the right direction please do. It was a complex flavor that I just couldn't do but is a regular drink in India and Pakistan.

I apologize to our Middle Eastern friends but I did not like this drink. I hope to redeem myself with some of the other drinks I have in my possession and Jay in his.

Frooti Mango

Frooti Mango
In advance, I do not typically bring juice boxes to kids three-year-old birthday parties but in this case I did. You will be happy to know that I did share. I'm no savage and my mom taught me right. So, Frootie. Eat a mango. Done. It was very accurate and then I read the ingredients and mango nectar was the number two ingredient. Burps taste more like mango than the drink at times but towards the end of the juice box it was back to Mangotown.

At thirty to fifty cents per box, you cannot really have any reason to not get a taste. They have many flavors and I can't wait to try them all.

Nescafe Mocha

Nescafe Mocha
I've expressed my disinterest in coffee beverages, specifically canned coffee beverages, in the past. So why did I buy this? Was it because it's mentioned in an R.E.M. song? You bet your butt that's why. I'm glad I did, because this is way tasty. It's super sweet. It tastes like a nice hot chocolate with a coffee after taste. You know but ignoring the part where the chocolate is hot.
I'd drink one of these on those days when I want a nice chocolaty drink but I need something more sub-sub-sub-substantial.
Now I will stop being a nerd.

Thums Up Cola

Thums Up Cola
We stumbled upon an Indian market today and scored a butt-load of drinks. Yes, butt-load is a scientific unit of measurement.
This is a cola made by the Hindustan Coca-Cola company. Why yes it does taste like I'm drinking Coca-Cola while I'm eating curry. Thank you for asking. Seriously though, it tastes like a regular cola, but there is this strange mystery flavor. I certainly don't mind it.

Nehi Orange

Nehi Orange
Nehi made a great grape soda. They have unfortunately missed the mark with their orange. It's more general sweet flavor than orange. I was expecting it to be super flavorful like the grape. Nope. I would seriously choose a run of the mill Orange Crush over this. I don't even know if veggie dogs* would make it better.

*For those not in the know orange pop and veggie dogs compliment each other perfectly.

Propel Black Cherry

Propel Black Cherry
I have to be honest. I never would have bought this. It probably would have been one of the last drinks to ever get reviewed on Thirsty Dudes. I was going back to my car from the grocery store and there was a cart next to my car with a six-pack of Propel in it. Keep in mind there were no other carts, or cars for that matter, around my car at all. Since no one was around to claim it, that 101.4 fluid OZ became mine.
I pawned most of them off on friends, as I figured it was going to be pretty gross. Today I decided it was time for me to drink the last remaining bottle. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. The black cherry flavoring is very strong. A little too strong for my liking, but I could still get through a bottle of it. It's a little thicker than water as well. I might actually like this more if I watered it down.
When I'm looking a drink that is full of vitamins and antioxidants I'm going to go with a juice, but for people who like other options this really isn't a bad one.

Aloevine Strawberry

Aloevine Strawberry
Upon first sip I thought "Wow this actually tastes like strawberries." The more I drank the less it tasted like fruit, and the more it just tasted like sweet liquid. It's not my favorite Aloevine flavor, but it's not bad. I would just recommend the other flavors first.

Nehi Grape

Nehi Grape
You know what's awesome? A decent grape pop. Grape pop has the potential to be so bad, so when a company gets it right it's cause for celebration. A celebration such as a work picnic perhaps? All the adults are playing softball downing some brews while the kids are running around getting in trouble with grape pop dribbling down their chins.
Nehi is a picnic pop. It doesn't actually contain grapes, but the flavor they have created does taste more like a purple grape than it does chemical.

Peace Tea Imported Ceylon Tea

Peace Tea Imported Ceylon Tea
Nope. I don't know why you would put sugar in a drink, pride yourselves on adding all natural ingredients and then screw it up by adding sucralose. This tea doesn't really have a taste. Alright, alright, in the beginning, it might have been alright. After about two or three sips, all I got was artificial flavor. All natural flavors, freshly brewed tea, filtered water...awesome, great. I don't know what happened but I couldn't drink this in its entirety, as it tasted fake. Jay loves the stuff, and more power to him, but this was not fantastic. I would easily take a HFCS Arizona over this, and no, it's not a matter of me having unrefined tastes, it's just that this didn't have a taste other than average tea and craploads of sugar, whether it is real or fake.

Square Apple Carrot

Square Apple Carrot
This has been in my fridge for about two months. I haven't been scared as I thought that I wasn't going to like it as much as I did. Truth is, this was very good. You get a lot of apple juice and a little carrot. Have you ever juiced anything? Firstly, a juicer is a terrible invention. In my personal opinion and experience, you can buy 15 bottles of V8 for the cost of buying a cheap juicer and one serving of fruits and vegetables. I once went to the grocery store to buy stuff for a juicer and it came to over $20 and made some gross juice. This doesn't taste anything like V8 but it is good. Sweet and apple-y but you know there are carrots in there, and you're fine with it. Is it good for you? Better for you than a lot of other stuff that we've been drinking.

Abbott Farms Cider Blackberry

Abbott Farms Cider Blackberry
A lot of people go on and on about strawberries and raspberries. Those people have it all wrong. Although those are both great fruits, the blackberry is your money berry. When they are just ripe they are a perfect food.
I pulled off the highway somewhere in South Carolina and saw a sign that said "Peach Cider." I knew I had to stop. When we entered it was a magical cider world of all varieties. This drink caught my eye, and I thought it was going to be the single greatest drink I've ever had. While it is good, it's not the best I've ever had. When you first sip it, it tastes like wonderful blackberries. Unfortunately when you swallow a harsh aftertaste sets in. I know it's a natural flavor, but I wish the sweetness would last a bit longer. If you've ever in SC and you see a place that sells this, by all means go crazy.

A&W Root Beer

A&W Root Beer
I really like that a lot of companies are starting to bring back glass bottles for their pop. I hope it's not a limited time sort of thing. Pop tastes better in glass than in cans or plastic. It's a scientific fact. The fine folks at NASA proved it back in the 70's. I think it was even mentioned in the Watergate files.
This tastes like a better version of the A&W you're used to. It's not as syrupy and it doesn't taste too cheap. I don't think I would ever buy a "normal" A&W if I saw it in a store, but it would be likely for me to pick another one of these up.

Absolutely gross. It smells like cream soda but tastes like cream soda soap. Gross. I shared half the 8.5 bottle and dumped the rest. Another waste of thirty-three cents. Can't wait for the finale....pineapple.

Bigelow Chai Latte Mocha

Bigelow Chai Latte Mocha
I don't really do chai. I don't do coffee. This should not have been something that I bought. That's what I thought before I tried it. Hey, sometimes when you see things that look interesting, you have to just suck it up and try something new.

Since I don't drink chai, I'm not too familiar with how it is supposed to taste or smell. I can tell you that because of this, I think that it smells a bit like bubble gum. Strange? I know. It's not a turn off. It's just not what one would think when reading the flavors. It might be mocha and light, light coffee together with the milk. Whatever. To me, if there were such thing as mocha bubble gum, this would be the smell.

Now on to the taste portion of this competition. It tastes good. It's creamy and doesn't have too much coffee. It's more of an undertone than a prominent flavor. The mocha covers that up nicely. I don't get a lot of tea, if I get any at all.

This company also makes the same drink in a vanilla, as opposed to the mocha that I'm doing now. I bet it's nice, but for my money if I have to get a spiced tea, I'd stick with Thai tea.

Nantucket Nectars Orange Mango

Nantucket Nectars Orange Mango
Nantucket Nectars sure knows how to make a quality juice. After drinking so much garbage that's out there it's nice to find a juice that actually tastes like the fruit it's named after. It tastes like someone dumped some mango puree into a glass of orange juice.
It's the way that I want my morning juice to taste.

Gold Peak Iced Tea Lemon

Gold Peak Iced Tea Lemon
I go back and forth between this one. Sometimes I take a sip and it's nice, sometimes it a bit too strange lemon. When it's good, it's good. When you get the lemon, it's not bad as much as not really what you've gotten used to. Almost like you have a two faced drink on your hands. Will I get it again? Probably. It's good when it's good, like I said. I will say that I like the original, sweetened tea a lot better and for that, this one will have a lower rating. That's how ratings work. Sorry.
