Genesis Today Boost Acai Berry

Genesis Today Boost Acai Berry
After that abortion of a acai berry energy drink I downed a couple of days ago, I thought I owed it to Genesis Today to give them another chance to prove that they still have it. They have done just that with this juice.

The acai doesn't taste like its bloated rotting corpse was just pulled up the bottom of a lake, which is a definite improvement. There are a whole mess of fruits mixed into this drink which give it a fruit punch type of flavor, but the acai is definitely front and center giving you a little wave.

For having no sugar added this is very sweet. Further proof that fruit knows how to have a good time all on it's own and companies need to stop adding extra sugar to everything in liquid form.

Genesis Today wins this round. Here's to hoping they are never on the wrong end of the gun again.

Cricket All Natural Cola Infused with Green Tea

Cricket All Natural Cola Infused with Green Tea
When Pinocchio was released in 1940 actor Jiminy Cricket was riding high. He was invited to all of the parties thrown by Hollywood's elite. He was rarely if ever seen out on the town without a beautiful girl and boy on each of his arms. Some might say he owned the city for that year. Unfortunately Jiminy soon found out that there wasn't much work available in films for crickets. In the late 40's he did a couple of television commercials, and then faded completely from the public eye. Like with many fall from grace stories there were rumors of drug addiction and prostitution. In 1953 Jiminy was found dead in his shoebox apartment on the lower east side of New York. The coroner ruled the cause of death an overdose on Black Flag. Jiminy had apparently taken up mainlining the stuff.

In the years that followed paternity suits popped up. The courts threw out hundreds of cases and it wasn't until 1983 when John Cricket came forward that an heir to Jiminy's royalties was named. Coming from a rich background, John had no personal need for the inheritance. As a result he invested it all into making soda. His specialty was a cola that he infused with two cups of his father's favorite drink; green tea. The soda had a strong tea flavor that outweighed that of the cola. The cane sugar overpowered the bitterness of the tea and gave it a nice rounded out clean flavor. It also has a slight herbalness to it. That was fine for the collectors who wanted to get their paws on everything Jiminy related.

V8 V-Fusion Concord Grape Raspberry

V8 V-Fusion Concord Grape Raspberry
Carl S. Junior, get over here right now and eat your vegetables. You can't just eat the fruit and then run into the mud like a Peppa Pig. I'm sorry, Sharon. Carl is being a bit of a bother. He doesn't like his vegetables. Try what? V8? Sharon, did you listen to me? I said he doesn't like vegetables, not loves them so much he wants to drink them. I swear, Sharon, sometimes...CARL! Get off of Mr. Draper's cat. Manny does not like to be pet that hard and especially not with muddy hands.

I'm sorry, Sharon, you said there was a different kind of V8? V-Fusion? I've never heard of it because I haven't been to a grocery store in about four years. It's a full serving of both fruit and vegetables and doesn't taste like vegetables? Sharon that would be the answer this current situation right now. You know, the one where Carl Jr has climbed Mr. Draper's tree and is readying himself to jump onto his roof if I make him eat another pea. Can I get this anywhere? Yes? Remarkable. Seriously, Sharon, how does it taste. Just like Concord grape juice and a little bit like raspberry? My idiot son can't read so he won't be able to see that it's good for him but he knows what a carrot is so I am going to have to pour this into a cup so he doesn't know that there are vegetables in it.

I don't mind lying to Carl Jr, Sharon. He's a kid. He'll believe anything. It's almost not lying if it's good for them in the end, right? Sure. I've got to go, Sharon. "Uncle" Tom is here. Hey, he likes having an uncle and I like that "uncle" Tom lets him play video games while we work on...you know...no Sharon. He comes over and helps me garden. I said it like that because he isn't a real uncle. Jeez, Sharon. Sometimes I don't know why we're friends.

Inko's White Tea Blueberry

Inko's White Tea Blueberry
I've been drinking more and more unsweetened tea these days. A couple of years ago I couldn't stomach the stuff, but now I find it very refreshing and a nice change of pace from all the sugar I intake in the name of Thirsty Dudes. I say this because when I first tried Inko's I remembered thinking that it was nice that it wasn't overly sweetened. Now when I drink this it seems like sugar city, but in a good way. IN actuality there are only 7g of sugar in each serving, which isn't a lot by sweetened tea standards. It's also a sugar that tastes real and slightly gritty (although the texture is more my imagination).

Everything is natural about this down to the blueberry extract. It has a great flavor that you won't find in an iced tea that comes in anything other than a glass bottle. It's light, sweet and fruity just like a quality tea should be.

Big Ben's Catawissa Private Stock Ginger Beer

Big Ben's Catawissa Private Stock Ginger Beer
...and this ladies and gentlemen will conclude our tour of historic London. You've seen the Jack the Ripper locations, Parliament, Buckingham Palace and some cathedrals. For our final destination I give you Big Ben. This "clock tower" is one of the most recognizable structures in all of England. What most people don't know is that the framework of the building is entirely made up of bottles of soda. Many people try to call my bluff at this point in the tour and point out that soda bottles could never be structurally sound. My retort is that this was built in a time when companies sold soda in reusable bottles. Have you ever seen those things? They are really strong. Many different types of pop bottles were used for different parts of the building. The actual area around the clock is completely constructed from ginger beer bottles. You can tell by the green tint to them. Something about a ginger beer that is sweet and flavorful, with just a slight kick to it, resulted in the perfect bottles for that area. The flavor of the specific ginger beer that used to be housed in those bottles taunted the drinker. It really tasted like it should have a very strong burn to it, but in the end it just had a very strong flavor.

Bottles of the same recipe can be purchased in the gift shop for a modest fee of 15 quid. Yes I understand that is a ridiculous price and you could probably purchase the same soda in eastern Pennsylvania for $1.50, but what you're purchasing here is a piece of history and who wants to leave London without a bottle of culture?

Harney & Sons Organic Black

Harney & Sons Organic Black
Jeeves, oh Jeeves, come here please. What is this? What, you say? Harney and Sons Organic Black tea? It's splendid. Where did you get this? In the cupboard? Really? Well, I clearly don't know what wifey brings in and out of this house. I really should pay more attention. I know that she's been spending a lot of time with the gardener and an equal amount of time with the new French tennis instructor.

What is in this? Basically just tea, sugar, and honey. It's so simple. Jeeves, get my people on the phone with this Mr. Harney and let's see if we can't come to some sort of agreement in terms of an acquisition, shall we? I can't let anything happen to this family and their wonderful tea. Why, I don't know what I would do if something happened to them and I wouldn't be able to get this delightful product. I say, it's probably in the phone book under "H". There are seventeen "Hanley's"? Well try them all. You are on the clock and this is important to me.

Jeeves, did I ever tell you of the time when mother used to make me tea when I was sick? When I was a boy, she used to make me tea and I thought it was simply dreadful so when mother wasn't looking, I would put sugar and honey in my tea. She was never the wiser. It cut out a lot of the bitterness and smoothed it out and it tastes exactly like this tea. This tea reminds me of mother and that's why it's so important that you get them on the phone and buy them out. While you're over there making phone calls for me, get my monocle cream. It's fogging up and I can't be bothered to do it myself.

Royal Gourmet Black Mushroom Drink

Royal Gourmet Black Mushroom Drink
My dad brought this back from a work trip he took to Taiwan. I was both excited and disgusted at the thought of drinking this. We decided to surprise Jay with the drink and filmed the results.

As you could see, the drink is really slimy and has little chunks of mushroom in it. Jay and Mike thought it had a barley taste to it, but I found it to be more of a mushroom soup taste. None of the ingredients are in English on the bottle but I was able to find a description of the drink on the manufactures website:
"Features Description:
Carefully selected organic cultivation of fresh white back black fungus, including iron, calcium, and glial-rich protein, known as plant called bird's nest, to prevent high blood pressure, have stomach scavenger reputation, high in fiber to help slimming thin"

I'm assuming "have stomach scavenger reputation" is mistranslated by Google. I thought about giving it another try while writing this review, but just the smell of it made my stomach turn.

Genesis Today Pure Energy Acai Berry

Genesis Today Pure Energy Acai Berry
Yesterday was my favorite day of the year; the first Friday of the Erie County Fair. I'm an old man and an outdoors kid at heart (yes it can both happen simultaneously) so I love the fair. To make things better the first Friday is the day of the annual llama fashion (costume) show. Llamas are pretty much the greatest things to ever exist and to watch kids parade them around in goofy costumes they made is just perfect. As per usual I took off from work and spent the entire day at the fair (11 hours). I came prepared with this energy shot to take to keep me up and moving (I didn't sit down for more than 3 minutes all day).

First off it smelled pretty terrible. It smelled like acai gone wrong. I had a couple friends take a nice big whiff and the disgust was present on the groups collected faces. I gave it a little taste, and it tasted only slightly better than it smelled. I was excited to have an organic energy drink. While it didn't taste gross in the chemical way it was far from good. I'm not a huger acai fan, but this was the worst I've ever had. I was disappointed because I've enjoyed everything else I have tried by this company, but this did not live up to my expectations. I would have probably given it a one bottle rating, but since it's an energy shot, and they never taste good by definition I will give it a two for being the first one I've had that didn't taste chemical.

Health Guard Be Happy Chocolate Cherry

Health Guard Be Happy Chocolate Cherry
John Lennon informed the world that, "Happiness is a Warm Gun." According to the Be Happy company he got it all wrong. Happiness is in fact a cherry cordial, or at least a weird chemical facsimile. That is exactly what this little 2oz shot tastes like. At first I thought it was kind of gross, but then I thought about the candy and it made it go down much smoother.

I can't relax when there are things that need to be done. My new apartment is almost totally put together now, but there is still a handful of things to do, so I'm still on edge. I had a busy day Friday and when I got home instead of relaxing I just started working again and getting annoyed. I decided I needed to calm down and relax and enjoy myself. I drank this and I have to say it worked. I felt much better. I decided I should watch a feel good movie, but instead put on the remake of I Spit on Your Grave. While it may not have been the family blockbuster I was looking for, movies like that prove to me that I am not completely desensitized, and I appreciate that.

Steaz Sparkling Green Tea Grape

Steaz Sparkling Green Tea Grape
Surprise, John! It's a celebration! You made it through initiation. I know this last month has been tough and we've been tough on you but you made it. Remember when Tim, the mailman, put an entire box of thumbtacks on your chair and then you sat on it? That was classic. Oh, do you remember when Carol, from accounting, put that eel in your sandwich and watched you eat it? I can't believe it. Then when she told you it was an electric eel and you started screaming; priceless. Ha ha, I just remembered when Bob, the night watchman, pulled his gun out on you when you were walking to your car. That dude, man, parts of me thought that you were going to cry, seriously, I thought you were going to cry.

So, in celebration of you making it through the hazing, we bought you this four-pack of Steaz grape sparkling green tea. It's pretty good. It tastes like light non-alcoholic champagne and since old man Dalrymple won't let us drink at work, this is the best we can do. It's good, though. It tastes like real concord grapes and although I don't get a lot of green tea taste, it's just the right amount of everything else to be awesome.

So you don't have to worry about us always eating your yogurt, putting Vasoline on your door handles, breaking your pencils, telling your wife you are at a "pay by the hour" motel when she calls, or any of that stuff. Welcome to First National Bank!

Texas Tea 'Austin's Own' Goodflow Honey Green Tea

Texas Tea 'Austin's Own' Goodflow Honey Green Tea
This is going to be a strange review, so please, bear with me.

This drink is good. This drink also tastes the way that fine leather smells. I'm sorry, but every sip I take reminds me of walking past Coach or Wilson's Leather when I worked at the outlet mall. Between the mint and the honey and the green tea and whatever is in there (which isn't much, I'm exaggerating) it really tastes like a nice new belt. I'm sorry. I know this isn't what you want to hear.

Let me try to get out of this funk for a second. It's really "mojito-esque" and the spearmint is very strong, but the bitterness is there. It's a very complex drink because you really can taste all the flavors at once and you have to roll the drink around to get it all. All the flavors are "there" but together...wallets.

I'm sorry. Would I drink it again? Probably not just because I'll never be able to get this thought of filtering an otherwise great drink through a pair of fine, Italian loafers, but I hope that it doesn't discourage you from picking some up for yourself. It probably does.

Wonderfarm Soursop

Wonderfarm Soursop
I didn't want this to be as good as it was. I thought to myself that I had been getting off too easy with a lot of these flavors and you, the public, might see some strange drink at a store, are curious, check the site, see that it's gross, and put it down. We travel far and wide to get some of the strangest things we can find, stupidly buy them, stupidlier drink them, and give your our intimate thoughts on them or some equally entertaining/less helpful review.

This guy isn't bad. It's got a tropical, nectar taste to it. Think of passionfruit nectar and if you like that, you'll like this. This dude I work with, Ken, is almost from the Bahamas and he told me how his mom made stuff with the seeds and how they dried the leaves and all about the soursop's medicinal properties for inflammation and pregnancy and such. What a super-fruit! Honestly, if it makes a good juice like this, help people alleviate pain, and do all that other stuff, it's got to be good.

Try it. You'll probably find it at your local Jamaican or Asian market. Sometimes they are the same thing. That is strange to me.

Baagua Tisane Action Jasmine Green Tea

Baagua Tisane Action Jasmine Green Tea
Do not be thrown off by what looks to be lawn debris that hang out in the bottom third of this bottle. They are nothing more than jasmine tea, goji berries and orange peels. Some may say that it is fodder for a compost pile. I say that it is the makings of an incredible tea. This is the strongest bottled jasmine tea I have ever tasted, and rightfully so as it's "literally stewing in it's own juices." There is a slight hint of the orange and goji berries, but it's mostly just straight jasmine right up in your face.

A tasted this with some friends and all of them asked if we were supposed to filter out the tealeaves and such. I chose not to and just filtered them out with my lips/teeth. I enjoyed it that way. The bottle also says to fill it with water after the tea is gone and you can get a lightly flavored drink. Who doesn't love round two?

If you like jasmine tea you definitely should check this out. It's basically perfect.

Gus (Grown Up Soda) Dry Cranberry Lime

Gus (Grown Up Soda) Dry Cranberry Lime
Seeing that I am now 32, I own my own business and I have an apartment with my ladyfriend I think it's safe to say I am an adult, or a grown up if you will. Now that I fit into that demographic I can finally drink this brand of soda without feeling like I am cheating. If anyone really felt that way, they are either obviously an actual child between the ages of 2 and 7, or they have some serious issues that they should probably see a specialist about. Feeling guilt over a soda is just plain dumb, unless you stole it from someone else, or you're cheating on your diet.

This pop is "for grown ups" because it's not as sweet as most sodas and it's also dry. I'm not exactly sure what it is that makes a soda dry, but I know I'm drinking one as soon as it hits my lips. Maybe it is just that there is less sugar in it. I tried to "Wiki" it, but all that come up was stuff about the company Dry Soda. All that aside this is a great tasting pop. Both the cranberry and the lime are fighting to be on the forefront of flavor town. That definitely gives it more of a sparkling juice flavor than a soda flavor. It is fairly dry, which is a nice change of pace from all the overly sugary sweet sodas that are out there. I love them but sometimes I need a break, so get off my back!

Powerade Zero Mixed Berry

Powerade Zero Mixed Berry
Oh Powerade, you fall into a weird subsection of my desire for drinks. I have never gone out of my way to buy a bottle of Powerade. That being said, I have never been unsatisfied by any flavor. I know some people say it's a weak Gatorade rip off, but it's what Coca-Cola is to Pepsi: a similar tasting competitor.

I thought their coloring choice of this "mixed berry" drink was interesting. When I look at Windex I don't EVER think of any berry, let alone a mixture of different ones. This doesn't have much flavor to it though. There's a slight raspberry taste, but it truly just tastes like "mixed berry" as generic as that may be. The good thing about it is there is no gross diet taste at all. Now that I know that, I might actually go out of my way to find more flavors in the Powerade Zero line of drinks.

V8 Spicy Hot

V8 Spicy Hot
Oh, the problems in my life! I don't eat well. I should. I should exercise more, but so should you. Don't give me that face. When was the last time you ran and no, I don't mean that time that you had to chase your dog because you were eating a double Whopper and walking your dog at the same time and when a pickle fell out, you dropped the leash and he ran down the street. That doesn't count. When I was at the store yesterday and saw that this gorgeous six-pack was available. I did not hesitate. It came out a long time ago and for all I know, which is little, it could still be out, but as long as time has gone by, this has been my favorite V8. I will buy plain, still delicious V8 and put hot sauce in it. Don't believe me? Who are you to deny me? You're in a sour mood today, friend.

I remember V8 came out with spicy V8 before and I think they partnered with Tabasco and that was alright, but I'm not a huge fan of that hot sauce and this could be the same thing, but since it's not actually printed on the can, I don't know, which I like. It's not too spicy but it's spicy enough that if this baby sized, 5.5-ounce can was twice as big, it still wouldn't be big enough.

Since I clearly can't say enough about this drink, and that it's not only wonderful, but it's wonderful for you, I have no choice to give it a five. Congratulations, V8, and I thank you for bringing this gem back into my life.

Route 66 Root Beer

Route 66 Root Beer
Ugh, we've been on this road forever. When can we stop? I'm super thirsty and have to pee like crazy. Seriously, how long is Route 66 and do the radio stations have some sort of monopoly over the airwaves because all they've played since we touched this dumb road is covers of "Route 66". Every channel. I thought it was funny for a while but we've been driving for nineteen hours straight and all they've played is the same song covered by different people. It's driving me insane. Oh, stop there! Stop there!

Do you want something to drink? I'll be right back.

Oh, God. You wouldn't believe it in there. It was torturous. There was just Route 66 memorabilia everywhere. Floor to ceiling. Everything from records to street signs to shirts to so many shirts. Holy crap. It was one giant gift shop with a Port-O-Potty out back. They had merch in the actual bathroom and it was unusable. It was so stupid. I did get this Route 66 root beer, which was $5.99 so it had better be worth it.

What do you think? Yeah? Let me try. Yeah, you're right. It's root beer. It's a medium root beer, not too light and not too dark. It's got some complexity to it and I think there might be some anise or licorice but I can't be sure. That would be considered "Natural and Artificial Flavorings" I assume, and I have no idea what "quillaia" is, but that's in there, too.

Seriously, the Hoover Dam had better be worth this drive because aside from the Depeche Mode cover of Route 66, I am going to grab the wheel when you aren't looking and drive into a cow or off a cliff or into a bridge.

Capt'n Eli's Ginger Beer

Capt'n Eli's Ginger Beer
I have been waiting to try this bottle for a while now. I had heard good things about Capt'n Eli's soda so I was excited when I found this at Village Candy. The classic look of the label made me think this was going to be a premium ginger beer. Sadly, I was a bit let down. It's good, but not great in my opinion. It has a nice ginger flavor to it with a slight burn aftertaste. But it doesn't have the deep burn that I love with ginger beer. The kind of burn that makes my lips sting, and makes me wait minutes in-between sips.

So in a nutshell, good (not great) tasting ginger beer with a mild to slightly medium burn. I think the barrels that boy on the label is taking off with in the boat is the good stuff. Stupid kid.

Blackman Homestead Farm Issac's Apple Concord Grape Juice

Blackman Homestead Farm Issac's Apple Concord Grape Juice
It's a wonderful thing when you find local drinks that you didn't know exist. I especially love when I find local juices. My ladyfriend picked this up for me at a farmers market and it's incredible. It is made in Lockport, NY and the only ingredients are local grapes and apples, both of which grow in abundance around here. No sugar, no preservatives, just fresh fruit. I love it. It's possibly the best grape juice I have ever had. The apple sweetens it up a bit so it's not very tart, but the strong flavor of the concord grapes greets your tongue with every sip.

If you're ever in the area and you come across this, I can't urge you enough to pick up a bottle. According to their website Blackman also makes a cider in the autumn that I can't wait to try.

Cintron Raspberry Iced Tea

Cintron Raspberry Iced Tea
I don't mean this to come across racist in any way, but I really feel like whoever designed this can did so with the Hispanic market in mind, specifically teenagers and young adults. I'm not saying that everyone who is from that ethnicity is into this sort of design, but that is what television would like me to believe. Stupid racist television. Because of it this can fills my head with visions of low-riders and bandanas.

In a blind taste test I don't know if I could tell this and Arizona's raspberry tea apart. Both are sweet and syrupy with that not quite natural raspberry flavor. It's not terrible, but with the current selection of iced teas that are on the market this certainly doesn't stand out.
