Sanavi Sparkling Spring Water Lime

Sanavi Sparkling Spring Water Lime
I know. I know. Jay just reviewed a drink from Sanavi. What are you going to do about it? Fight me? I'm already impressed that you're reading this review at all. I often wonder if anyone gets so mad at our reviews that they do want to fight us. Jay and I are pretty passive dudes. Attractive, sure. Friendly, sometimes. Passive? Yeah. Also, quiet and dangerously apathetic. It's strange that we even run this website considering the ample amount of things we don't give a rip about.

I'll tell you one thing we love, though and that's sparkling water. Oooh sparkling water. We've come a long way from nothing but pop and jelly drinks. In the last five years we've reviewed over 4500 drinks and we've come to a point where all we want to drink is unsweetened sparkling water and unsweetened tea. All day. Every day. This is a reward after you do anything since it's not super sweet. It's just a nice little flavor burst whenever you want. How about now? You bet'cha. Twelve minutes from now? Oh hell yeah, pimp. The only reason that it's four out of five bottles is because it's "just" lime. Four is an admirable score. Don't feel bad about it. Get it. Refresh yourself.

Sanavi Sparkling Spring Water Lemon

Sanavi Sparkling Spring Water Lemon
The Pledge cleaning supply company has ruined a good portion of the beverage industry. Sometime decades ago they created furniture polish that smells exactly like every lemon flavored beverage I have ever come across. It's the first time a company created a product that is an accurate portrayal of the fruit it named itself after, and it's just unfortunate. Companies like Sanavi are the victims here. Pre Lemon Pledge days this would be a wonderful citrus seltzer. It tastes just like someone squeezed a lemon into a bottle of seltzer water. It should be a dream come true, but unfortunately all I can think about is cleaner. Do yourself a favor and get past the cleaner idea and enjoy this like it is meant to be. Like it should be.

La Croix Sparkling Water Mure Pepino (Blackberry Cucumber)

La Croix Sparkling Water Mure Pepino (Blackberry Cucumber)
I've been holding onto this seltzer for a while now, just waiting for the perfect time. I am a sucker for all things blackberry, as well as all things cucumber, so this sounded like a dream. When I purchased it there was only one can, and for fear that I would never find it again I wanted it to be special. For weeks it has sat in my fridge, just staring me down, daring me to drink it. Today was the day. The thing is that there is nothing special about today. I was just sitting there reading and thought to myself, now is the perfect time for that drink. I was not wrong. This is fantastic, and perhaps the best seltzer I have ever tasted. While the flavor is mostly blackberry, it does have the crispness that only cucumber can bring and its flavor was pleasant underneath the berry.

This is a beverage that I can just imagine sweetened. It has the potential to be an incredible soda, just by adding a little cane sugar. The thing is that it is just as wonderful without the sugar. This drink could exist in both worlds and get top marks. I hope this flavor makes it into the multipacks soon, because I will devour it like there is no tomorrow and not horde it like a sucker.

Plum Vida Cherry. Berry. Beet. Ginger.

Plum Vida Cherry. Berry. Beet. Ginger.
I know there is a whole culture out there of people into infantilism (grown people pretending to be babies) and while I don't think they were the intended target audience for this beverage I'm guessing that they are responsible for a good portion of Plum Vida sales.

If this juice came in a bottle I feel like I would be writing a glowing review here, minus the fact that I think they went a little heavy on the pear, but it coming in this pouch just makes me think that I'm savaging for food and they only thing I could find was baby food. I'm sure there is a reason they chose this packaging, probably something environmental as everything in here is organic and it is BPA free. I just keep imaging a room of grown men, hairy sweaty grown men, sitting around in diapers and bonnets just slurping away at this juice. I'm not judging, it's just what comes to mind.

Never mind my fever dreams for the moment and let's discus taste. Serve this to me in a glass and switch out that pear puree for boring old apple and you've got my attention. This is cherry, raspberry and beet juice with a bit of ginger in the mix All four of those flavors are present and very accounted for, so I have no complaints (well seriously I'm just not a fan of pear, can we swap it out?) I'm not exaggerating when I say that if a glass of this was served to me at a juice bar I wouldn't think twice about paying $5 for it. Seeing as these are about $1 each that is pretty astounding.

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters Meyer Lemon

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters Meyer Lemon
Ohh! So bitter. So adult. This drink is the sedan of drinks. This drink is the station wagon of drinks. This is a mature drink. This is a drink for mature people. This drink is punishment for your kids when they get out of line. Failed a test? Sparkling bitters. Hit a kid? Sparkling bitters. Peed in their pants? Sparkling bitters.

Is it bad? Not if you are in the right mindset. It's bitter. As soon as you accept it, it kind of tastes like a lemon rind. I don't know where the bitter comes from but it's there, man and it's strong. It's not sour. I don't know if you thought you were drinking poorly made lemonade but it's far from that. This is something you wonder if they made it wrong or if you're supposed to mix it with something. This is a drink to drink in the land of confusion.

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters White Peach

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters White Peach
There is a hierarchy in the world of sparkling beverages. Much like in karate you have to go on a “journey” and complete tasks in order to reach the next tier. Wait, do you have to perform certain tasks to move onto the next belt in karate, or does it just depend on the amount of time you spend in the classes? I mean what if you have a natural talent and within the first month you can just destroy everyone in class, but show the reserve not to, do you move up the belt ranks faster? Let's just say you need to work for it and gain wisdom to move up.

You start off as a child and someone puts a garbage cup of pop in front of you. It's insanely sweet because it's full of high fructose corn syrup. You're little mind and taste buds aren't developed enough, so you think it's the greatest thing in the world. Any brand, any flavor they are all incredible to you. As time goes on you decide you prefer certain flavors and certain brands just taste better. Look at you, you've gained a new color belt. Later on in life you discover that soda sweetened with cane sugar is far superior to that with HFCS and you don't' really want to touch the garbage stuff anymore. Level up my friend. Before you know it you're an adult and your tastes have continued to evolve. Before you know it you find yourself saying things like, “Oh no thanks that is just too sweet for me.” You'll get a can of soda and drink half of it at most. You realize that there is something to flavored seltzer water and that it calms your craving for carbonation without making you feel like garbage. As you don your new imaginary soda belt you think to yourself, “This is it. I've finally reached adulthood.” You may not realize it but there is another belt. That belt is called tonic and bitters, and I for one am not quite there yet. Maybe I will when I'm in my 50's as it took me 35 years to accept seltzer as my lord and savior. Perhaps when I reach a half century on this planet I will raise a glass of bitters take a sip and say, “This certainly hits the spot, and I can die peacefully now because I know tranquility.” All of the meditation in the world cannot get you to the place of inner peace that you reach when you let tonic and bitters into your life. It is the true enlightenment, or so I can only imagine.

I hope to someday reach the final belt, but until then I will just have to sip these drinks and wonder desperately what it is about them that is alluring. I don't hate them, but I don't think I really enjoy them either. If you take a sip of this and don't breathe out it's like you're drinking a nice white peach seltzer. The fruit flavor is soft and light. It's pleasant. Then you exhale and the bitterness sets in. That aftertaste is so specific and strange to me. I will someday comprehend and enjoy it, or I will have failed as a Thirsty Dude.

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters Classic Aromatic

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters Classic Aromatic
As if seltzer isn't "for adults" enough, here is one that tastes like you're eating an orange you dropped in the woods and let it sit and marinate in the bark of a thousand trees. Is that bad? Not if you like the great outdoors. That goes for the place or the movie in no particular. It's good. It's sparkling and at the end is bitter but in the beginning, it's got a nice, orangey flavor. It does turn quickly but you've got to "man up" quickly because it's going to get tough soon; sooner than you probably thought; sooner than you probably wanted. If you wanted it to stay calm forever, you have the wrong drink because this is a drink for people with some hair on their chest. Male or female it doesn't matter this drink is indiscriminately put hair on your chest and on your knuckles. The type of person that knows how to use a saw and uses a saw regularly, that's who this is for. You know, the type of person that doesn't use conditioner but lets the dust from hay and sawdust "take care of it." Is this you? Are you this? If so, you've got a drink waiting for you at the top of a pile of gravel you have to shovel out for no particular reason which you will do with glee.

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters Grapefruit Mint

Doppelganger Sparkling Bitters Grapefruit Mint
I am by no means an expert of this topic, but I always thought bitters were little bottles of distilled flavoring that you added to alcoholic drinks. I guess that could be what this is, but I was under the impression that they were along the lines of a concentrate and that you added a very minimal amount to reach the desired taste. Of course, as always, I make up my mind just on an idea and I don't finish reading the rest of the bottle before my brain decides what to expect. Before I even took a sip I was convinced that his was not going to be what my mind thought it should be. I was ready to write it off instantly. Then I took a sip and read the rest of the bottle and found out that this is tonic water with a dash of grapefruit mint mixed in. So it looks like my beliefs were correct and also that I should not be writing drink reviews because I don't always have an open mind.

This is exactly what is says it is, and it does not lie about it being bitter. In most drinks that are grapefruit flavored one would expect the flavor to come from grapefruit juice. In here it tastes most like the rind was used, which makes it very bitter, but not unenjoyable. Also, the mint is there more as a cooling factor than as an actual mint taste. In a world where people generally go overboard with mint, this is something that I can truly appreciate.

I may have finally grown up this year and accepted the greatness of seltzer water, but I'm not quite ready to fully embrace tonic with bitters. Give me another couple of years and we'll talk again.

Sprout Rise Morning Smoothie Apple Cinnamon

Sprout Rise Morning Smoothie Apple Cinnamon
Do you know me? Do you know what kind of being I am? Do you know what I like? What I crave? Do you know of my love for smoothies? Do you know that I also have a love for all things “apple cinnamon” flavored? Did you know that I could survive happily on smoothies for longer than your average person? Most importantly, did you know that I am not a horse? To be more specific, did you know that I am not a horse who has lost all of its teeth and needs to be fed a special paste? I think that you must not have been aware of that fact, sprout. Otherwise I can't imagine why you would feed me this. This tastes like the bins of grain that were in my aunt's barn for the horses to consume smelled. (There is definitely something not proper about that sentence). It's like someone took a scoop of those grains, put them in a blender with some water and added an apple and a dash of cinnamon. The grain flavor is way stronger than anything else and it's so very thick. I thought this would be something that I would really enjoy, but the ratios are off, or it needs a little something else to make me not feel like a sick horse. Maybe change who you're marketing this towards? Actually, I think horses get put down before they get that far along. I don't know who this is for anymore.

Tea Drift Good Morning Energy

Tea Drift Good Morning Energy
These post-daylight savings time days have got me down. It's dark too early and I always feel like it is way later than it actually is. As a result I've felt worn down for the past few weeks. Tonight was no exception. I didn't want to go full on energy drink, and I remembered that I had this tea stashed away just waiting to be reviewed so here it is.

Tea Drift was nice enough to send us a variety of their flavors and “Good Morning Energy” sounded just like what I needed at 6PM. It's black tea, lavender, rose, bergamot and rosemary. Let me tell you they are not messing around with these flavors. As soon as I opened the package the room was filled with the aroma of flowers. I have a strange soft spot for floral beverages, but this was a bit too much for me. It was more flower than tea. I also always thought that flowers were supposed to be relaxing and not give you energy. I mean they also have a flavor called “Calming Rose.” I'm pretty sure the only boost I'll be getting is from the black tea.

It was actually a chore for me to work through a mug of this, but my ladyfriend loved it and drank hers happily. People like different things, and that kind of makes this website obsolete.

Mati Healthy Energy Cherry

Mati Healthy Energy Cherry
Allow me to let you in on a little secret; one letter can make a world of a difference. Someone could be threatening to “kill” you, but you won't think it's a big deal because their phone autocorrected to “bill” you. Perhaps you are preparing your loved ones a nice dinner of “Hunan” beef, but they think that you have slaughtered the neighbors and prepared them a “human” feast. Things can go pear shaped fairly easily these days. It is at this point that I must inform you that “mati” and “mate” certainly are not the same thing. So when you open up a can and expect to be getting a nice,, cherry flavored tea; what you actually are getting is cherry flavored guayusa. Sure they both supply you with a decent amount of caffeine, but the tastes are wildly different. What you expect to be a beverage that will have a nice earthy flavor will actually be strangely fruity with no balance. This is fruity and something that falls between bitter and sour. I'm not sure I would really enjoy this even if I wasn't mistaken as to what I was about to imbibe. Even though there is real cherry juice in here, when it mixes with the guayusa it gives it a vaguely medicinal flavor that just doesn't sit right with me.

H2Melon 100%Pure Watermelon

H2Melon 100%Pure Watermelon
As a child one of the most annoying things that could happen on a hot summer day was when someone would bring a huge bowl of watermelon to an outing. I believe it has been scientifically proven that all kids love watermelon, and at these moments without fail as I reached for the refreshing fruit, someone would stop me and tell me that it was a treats for adults only. I was always so bummed that adults for treats when I didn't and it took me a while to realize that it meant some turd had dumped a bottle of vodka or something like that into my glorious fruit, hence ruining it. Actually as a non-drinking adult I have had the same experiences with the same results. The amount of times in my life that I've had to speak the phrase “Is this safe for me?” are more than I'd care to think about.

The bottom line is that everyone loves watermelon in the summer, so don't make it an exclusive thing with your dumb booze. If you do make sure you keep some separate for those who don't want the alcohol, or grab a couple of bottles of H2Melon. It is a cold pressed juice with watermelon being the only ingredient. It's just the fruit juiced and nothing else, and that is wonderful. I really wish that it was blazing hot out while I sit here drinking this, but sometimes timing doesn't work out and it's mid-November in Buffalo. I'm certainly not going to wait eight months to let this juice pour over my taste buds, just for a proper experience. I'm going to drink it now and use its glory to transport me back to a relaxing summer day instead of trying to stay warm without turning the heat on (it's a little game I play).

This tastes exactly like what it is, watermelon. I do have to say that it tastes a bit like the rind was juiced with the pulp of the melon. I personally don't mind that and I think it's actually essential for a proper watermelon experience. You always get a little bit of rind in your bites when eating the fruit, so they are just keeping things authentic. If you are someone who hates summer and refreshment stay away from this juice, but if you crave summer sip away. You might not actually feel the warm sun on your face, but this makes it easier to pretend.

Polar Seltzer Tart Cherry & Lime

Polar Seltzer Tart Cherry & Lime
I love Polar. I should say that I have learned to love Polar. My mom has drunk it for years and for all of those years I thought it was gross. Since then, I have learned to love it. With the excess of sugar on my plate at any given time, it's so nice to calm down for once and just drink something with unaltered, unadulterated flavor.

This one falls a little flat for me, though. Normally the flavors are a bit bolder and cherry and lime is a wonderful combination but this was a bit too subtle for me. Subtle might be a secret way of saying "I wish the flavors were stronger" but I can't be sure. Since it's sugarless, flavor and carbonation is really all it has going for it and it was plenty carbonated. I don't want to say it was flavorless because it did taste like both lime and cherry but...more. I just want more. Now I sound like my girlfriend. More more more. Greed has become of me. I have become greed. Together we are one and our name is "more." Alas, it is my destiny. I must accumulate.

Purity Organic Superjuice Blackberry Apple Chia

Purity Organic Superjuice Blackberry Apple Chia
Dear World, Can we please put a memoritorium on adding banana juice/puree that are not specifically banana flavored things? I understand that they are fairly healthy and work as a nice thickening agent, but it's normally such an overwhelming flavor, and I for one am not a fan of it. So many juices in my life have been ruined by the inclusion of this dumb mushy fruit. Luckily Purity Organic used it sparingly, and while I could still detect it, it did not overpower the rest of the flavors. If this were a lesser drink I would have had a sip or two and left the rest to someone else, but Purity does not mess around and minus the folly of banana I really enjoyed it.

The other ingredients are apple, chia, blackberry, red beet, ginger and blueberry. That is quite the team they have assembled and some weird early 90's cartoon could have been based around them fighting evil. Saturdays mornings were strange during that time in our nations history. The chia has been ground up, and instead of juice there is puree used. The result is that this is fairly thick in an interesting way. All of the flavors are present, but the apple and blackberry are the leaders of this crime-fighting gang, hence they got top billing. I think in season two we are going to find out that banana is really a double agent and things are going to get interesting.

Tea Drift Metabolism Booster Lemon Mint

Tea Drift Metabolism Booster Lemon Mint
This is an entry-level tea for everyone. There is a light green tea, light melon, light lemon and light peppermint. It's subtle everything which makes for a pretty good tea. If some of these flavors were too intense, it would make it too definitive or too much of one particular type but since everything is one the same, low level, you're left with an even, well put together drink.

Sometimes I ice my tea. In this case, this is what I did. It makes for a great iced tea. I think that iced green tea allows the bitterness of green tea to shine through a little bit and that's what green tea should taste like. I think that if I drank it hot, the lemon might have shined through but I would have missed the melon a bit. I think I made the right decision and I think I found a tea that, if I had more of, would be a "go to" in these warm, end-of summer, days.

Salad Power + Pineapple

Salad Power + Pineapple
This smells terrible. It doesn't make sense because it tastes totally different. I hate to describe it to V8 but it's essentially a slightly sweeter V8. So why didn't I finish the carton? It got old. I don't know what makes V8 different. It could be the viscosity. This is thin. Almost like a more traditional juice. I have no idea short of them super juicing everything that comes through the front door about how they get it so thin. What's the advantage of that? Leave a little oomph in there, why don't you? The thinner the juice, the more waste you probably have. What are you doing with the waste, huh? Hopefully feeding it to turtles. Turtles love juice waste. I know this for a fact. I know that this an average drink that tastes better than it smells and that turtles love to eat the waste of juicing.

'Tude Cold Pressed Juice Marionberry Apple Juice

'Tude Cold Pressed Juice Marionberry Apple Juice
Son, I know I'm being a terrible parent by saying this, but you're being a little jerk. If you keep acting this way no one is going to like you. You'll have no friends and as you grow older you'll get picked on more and more and you'll eventually sit at lunch all alone. These are the kinds of things that lead to sociopathic behavior. You don't want to be a sociopath do you? I'm glad you said no. I mean you're only two and obviously have no idea what that word means, but I appreciate that you can understand the seriousness in my voice. It's time to make a change son. The world doesn't revolve around you and the sooner you learn that the better. Then you can work on a decent life for yourself and maybe find some happiness in this life that most people seem to miss. Let's start today son. This all started because you wanted a soda pop. I don't know how you even know what that is at your age. Actually I do; it's your grandmother isn't it? She's determined to give you all the garbage food your body can consume. Listen to me son, don't go down that route. Stay healthy. It will give you an advantage when this world finally goes to hell and it's everyone for themselves. Instead of that soda have this little bottle of juice. It's called 'tude and that's exactly where you need to make an adjustment in your life. As you slurp down this moderately priced cold pressed juice think of the ways you can improve your attitude so that you can make something of yourself, and I don't mean just make a bunch of money. I mean ways in which you can do something you love and survive without becoming a financial burden on others. It's marionberry and green apple juice mixed. How could you go wrong with that. It's delicious and it's nice and tart. The way that it tastes like something along the lines of acai or pomegranate slightly lets you know that it's chock full of antioxidants. Antioxidants son, they are an important thing....Please ignore most of what I just said. I wasn't built to have kids and I haven't slept in days. I'm delirious son. You should probably forget about the part when I said I wasn't meant to have kids. I love you son, but you really make it difficult to do that sometimes.

Sanavi Sparkling Spring Water Strawberry

Sanavi Sparkling Spring Water Strawberry
I only like drinking the sparkliest of waters. The sharpest of waters. The fruitiness of waters. The...you get it. This has somehow been on my desk for like an hour and a half and it's still as sharp as ever. But is it good? Does sharp mean good? No but it's good regardless. It's got a great strawberry flavor matched to any Polar or general seltzer water. For what I'm assuming is a "small fry," it's a good accomplishment. You're in the ring with the big boys and you're holding your own. I don't think I've ever seen Rambo to do a just comparison to that.

If you're looking to be just cool enough that you want to, like us, bring something new to a party so you seem interesting to other people, bring this. It's new and those idiots haven't seen it and it makes you seem adventurous. That's how to get chicks. Chicks, man. Chicks.

Salad Power Original

Salad Power Original
It's no surprise that I need to eat more vegetables. It's true. I need it. If I could drink this all the time, I would be sure to lose weight and probably be in better shape than I am now. I love to eat, man. What do you want from me? I live in a city that has great food. Enough about me, though. Let's talk about you.

You're a real chunker, man. You need help. I shouldn't be drinking this. You should. Here. What do you think? It's good, right? A little strange, right? It almost tastes like there are onions in there but I think it's a mix between the kale and the tomato. That gives it a little strange taste. Once you get past that, it's decent. Yes. Decent. I feel the heath surging through my veins and it's doing my body good.

I think that after drinking this for lunch, I can slam a killer dinner involving steaks and potatoes and some sort of chocolate molten lava cake. Yes. It has been decided.
